Job Description
Description

Lutheran Social Service MN is a dynamic social service organization serving children, youth and families, people with disabilities, older adults, and military veterans. We serve 1 in every 65 Minnesotans across the state and are continuing to grow and improve our services to best meet the needs of the community. Trustworthiness is a value and strength shared by our employees and recognized by the communities we serve. We offer an ALIVE Workplace (Supportive, Positive and Fun) and careers that challenge, energize and rewards employees. Consider joining us!

As a Planned Giving Officer, you will be part of a fun, supportive, and inclusive team collaborating with other advancement staff to build relationships, develop and implement fundraising strategies to expand support for Minnesotans supported by LSS.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage and expand the organization's planned giving society - the Norelius Society - statewide.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward planned giving prospects.
  • Work closely with Development Leadership, Relationships Managers, the Church Partnerships and Volunteerism Team, the ELCA Foundation, and a Planned Giving consultant to promote the mission and values of LSS to the public, nurture the existing donor base and develop strategies to foster planned gifts.
  • Build and maintain a portfolio of approximately 200-250 planned giving prospects and donors living across the state of Minnesota.
  • Collaborate with the Development Church Partnerships and Volunteerism Team to engage with faith-based donors and prospects.
  • Connect with community members via phone, in-person, virtual visits, congregational visits (some evenings and weekends), mailings, writing cards, and email communication.
  • Work with community members from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and affiliated groups.
  • Work with a team committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.

Social Justice & Anti-Racism

Lutheran Social Service envisions a Minnesota in which all people have the opportunity to live and work in community in full and abundant lives. We know that we cannot hope to achieve this vision while racism threatens the well-being of ourselves and our neighbors.

In 2008, LSS declared our commitment to anti-racism and began the journey of becoming an anti-racist and multicultural organization. There have been significant changes both inside and outside LSS that only affirm the importance of this commitment. LSS cannot be effective in our mission without developing our skills to work interculturally. This is critical not only for the communities we serve, but for the diverse employee body at LSS.

What We Offer You:

  • An excellent benefits package (medical, dental, life, vision, 403(b) plan with a match, wellness program, possible student loan forgiveness).
  • Opportunity to work in a hybrid environment.
  • Generous PTO plan, Paid Holidays, and 3 Float Days.
  • A supportive and inclusive workplace with focuses for Racial Equity and Anti-Racism.
  • Paid training and opportunities to continue professional development.
  • An outstanding reputation.
  • Employee resource groups (Pan-African ERG, LGBTQIA2S+ ERG, Women in Support of Empowerment (W.I.S.E.) ERG, and API ERG).

Job Requirements:

  • 10+ years of Development experience preferred.
  • Experience with complex, multi-year gifts.
  • General understanding of stock, estate, and planned giving processes.
  • Experience in working in a multi-million-dollar campaign.
  • Able to create 12+ month donor strategies.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree/experience preferred.
  • Effective communication, collaboration, social/emotional intelligence, and listening skills.
  • Ability to use outlook, excel, word, and other software systems for donor communication.
  • Strong planning and strategic thinking skills.
  • Interested in building relationships in the community.
  • Ability to assess situations quickly and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Proven familiarity with local and surrounding community resources.
  • Driver's license required.
  • Expectation for travel: statewide travel with some evenings and weekend visits.
