Job Summary:
Under the direction of the HIM Coding Manager, this position is responsible for organizing, planning and scheduling the daily workflow for inpatient coding. Primary supervisory responsibilities include: interviewing, hiring, discipline, daily supervision for employees in the inpatient coding section. Training responsibilities include developing and presenting training programs, process improvements, and regulatory compliance to coding employees. The supervisor of inpatient coding requires a high level of organizational skill, coordination and implementation of coding processes throughout the coding section. This position requires a high degree of independent quick and complex decision making. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Maintains a good working relationship with medical staff and other hospital departments. The position requires indepth knowledge of coding systems and software both in ICD-9 and ICD-10 CM/PCS.


EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:

Two years of HIM experience is required. Two years of supervisory experience is required. Experience in an academic medical center is preferred.

EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:

Associate's Degree in HIM or equivalent is required. Bachelor's Degree in HIM or equivalent is preferred.

TRAINING DESCRIPTION:

ICD-10 CM/PCS training is required.

LICENSURE DESCRIPTION:

Certified RHIA or RHIT is required. Certified Coding Specialist preferred.
