Job Description

SUMMARY
The Patient Safety Monitor I under the supervision of the Professional Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse, and/or the Physician, is responsible for providing age-appropriate, culturally and ethnically sensitive care, maintaining a safe environment, collecting information, communicating effectively, and utilizing technology. The Patient Safety Monitor I provides continuous monitoring and supervision of selected patients who meet eligibility criteria for involuntary status under the Georgia Mental Health Code (1013, 2013, 1014, 1021 certificates), but are not limited to, patient requiring suicide precautions, patients who need supervision to prevent them from falling or otherwise harming themselves when it is not feasible for the nursing staff to provide these services. The role of the Patient Safety Monitor I also includes patient advocacy and performance improvement.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Health Care Provider Card
  • Patient Safety Monitors I may include: Mental Health Assistants/Associates, Paramedics, Public Safety Officers, and other personnel who meet training/education eligibility requirements for their role
  • Must have documented successful completion of the following education requirements: Mental Health Assistant (MHA) Training Classes on Behavior Management; Self-/Study on Patient Safety and proof of Crisis Prevention Intervention Training

PRN staff are required to work a minimum of three (12 hour) shifts per schedule, yet hours are based on the needs of the unit(s) and are not guaranteed. (Length of shifts may vary) PRN staff may sign up in advance based on the needs of their home unit or other units within the department and may also be called when needs arise. PRN staff must be flexible with regard to floating to other areas within the department as needed. They are considered the first to float in order to assure safe staffing requirements across the nursing units.
Weekend Requirements: One (1) weekend shift per 4- week schedule. (Friday 7pm - Monday 7am)
Holiday Requirements: Must work two (2) holidays per year: One major (Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year's) and one minor (Memorial Day, July 4 th , Labor Day or Martin Luther King Day).
