Requisition ID req29444 Working Title Printmaking Lab Manager Position Grade 11 Position Summary

Oversees the daily operations, management, and staffing of the Printmaking Area in the Department of Art and Art History. Ensures the smooth and efficient functioning of the Printmaking Area and the safe use and maintenance of equipment and facilities.

The Printmaking Lab Manager is responsible for managing the print lab:

  • Developing policy and protocol around shared equipment, reservations, and student access.
  • Establishing and maintaining policies regarding safe use of equipment; conducting safety orientations for students on the proper use of equipment and materials at the beginning of each semester.
  • Maintaining a thorough record of equipment condition and needed service.
  • Working with accountants, administrators, and faculty on purchasing new items, updating, and repairing damaged equipment.
  • Interacting regularly with Facilities Management regarding building issues (i.e. plumbing problems, roof leaks etc.)

The Printmaking Lab Manager supervises several student employees each semester. Responsibilities include:

  • Hiring and scheduling student employees and assigning responsibilities.
  • Training student employees on equipment, materials, and software.
  • Fostering a positive and cooperative work environment.

The Printmaking Lab Manager is responsible for managing the Paper Closet. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing policy and protocol around shared equipment, reservations, and student access; implementing appropriate
  • inventory control systems and maintaining inventory
  • Managing several financial accounts, prepares both weekly and monthly expense reports, handles petty cash.
  • Establishing and maintaining policies regarding safe use of equipment; conducting safety orientations for students on the proper use of equipment and materials at the beginning of each semester.
  • Maintaining a thorough record of equipment condition and needed service, conducting a full inventory and status evaluation once per semester.
  • Physical requirements of job are considerable. Requires handling of heavy objects. Standing/walking on concrete at least 50% of time. Basic woodworking/mechanical skills are helpful.
  • Use of personal vehicle for gathering supplies from local vendors.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a directly related field; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience

  • BFA/BA Art Studio with an emphasis in printmaking or comparable experience.
  • At least two years of experience working with students and faculty - or comparable in terms of teacher/client.

Technical Knowledge

  • Experience and working knowledge of Quickbooks (for Paper Closet accounting)
  • Microsoft Outlook Apps: Bookings, Word, Excel, One Drive
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Mailchimp
  • Square (POS)
  • Ability to learn and use UNM - specific programs: LoboMart, Chrome River, UNMJobs, Learning Central, RMM (Research Materials Management)
  • Mac & PC, Epson inkjet printers/scanner + HP Laserjet printers
