Job Summary:

The Financial Analyst plays a key support role in the financial planning and analysis processes for SunOpta, including the assistance with the annual budget, quarterly forecast, monthly close, and other ad hoc analysis to support business decision-making. The Financial Analyst is a highly focused team player and go-to resource within the finance function who takes on various processes, is accountable for results, and fosters effective communication. The person in this role has a strong foundational knowledge of finance concepts, has acute attention to detail, can manage their work independently, and is able to sift through ambiguous concepts while applying logic and reason.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  1. Budgeting and Forecasting
    • Support the annual budget and monthly/quarterly forecasts for the segment by assisting and liaising with key finance and other functional leaders (sales, marketing, operations, R&D, quality, etc.).
    • Assist with financial modelling, forecasting, budget, scenario planning, and business partnering to ensure deadlines and targets are met.
    • Prepare and update consolidated budget and forecast reports, including manufacturing statements, income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows.
    • Support process improvement initiatives, including systems development related to the business planning process, and documentation of those initiatives.

  1. Financial Close and Reporting
    • Support the month-end close and consolidation process by assisting with collection and review of reporting packages and other financial information, supporting departmental SG&A review, performing analysis of consolidated results, and preparation of consolidated financial statements.
    • Develop/maintain financial models and other ad hoc analysis to provide relevant and insightful information on business performance.

  1. Other
    • Provide business partnership and support to Sales, Marketing, and other functions, and interact cross-functionally to gather inputs to support various analyses and reports as needed.
    • Ensure adherence to company policies and controls, support SOX compliance and audit related efforts.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives in standard processes and reporting.
    • Other duties and ad hoc requests as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance and/or Accounting.
  • 1-5years of experience in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Understanding of financial statements, accounting principles, and analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with data analytics tools, such as Power BI.
  • Experience in Oracle, Hyperion, and/or Essbase.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Results oriented, "get things done" attitude.
  • Self-starter with a passion for continuous improvement.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy, well organized.
  • A team player with strong business acumen.
  • Strong analytical (qualitative and quantitative) problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret data and communicate effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Additional Considerations:

  • Travel Expectations: minimal
  • The preferred location for this role is in our Corporate Office in Eden Prairie, MN
  • Relocation or international remote working arrangements (outside of the US) will not be considered.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Majority of the work is performed in an office environment.
