Position Announcement

Housed within the College of Science, Engineering & Technology, the Web and Digital UX Designer will be an active participant in the Innovation Labs at Utah Tech University. This position involves designing and testing digital user experiences, digital user interfaces and websites, focusing on layout, functionality, and cross-browser compatibility. Includes adhering to web and accessibility standards, analyzing web metrics, optimizing for Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and managing website content and graphics. Assists in the implementation and testing of designed products while providing limited guidance and instruction to interns. Responsibilities

National Parks Visitor Use Data Project (15% of time)

  • Develop user-centric designs that are tailor-made to accommodate the unique environments and needs of various National Parks like Zion and Yellowstone.
  • Oversee design developments across diverse media, focusing on app interfaces, informative dashboards, and coherent signages, both digital and traditional.
  • Create dynamic dashboards to portray real-time data on visitor movements.
  • Conceive and refine sensors and interactive elements that can withstand diverse conditions, all while ensuring that the designs retain their intuitiveness and user-friendliness.
  • Conduct regular usability and impact testing session to assess the efficacy and the environmental footprint of the design solutions.
Utah State Parks Project (70% of time)
  • Lead the intricate process of crafting designs across digital and traditional media, focusing heavily on app development design and dynamic dashboard to user satisfaction and overall experience within the Recreation Services and Reservation System.
  • Develop visually-appealing and informative signs and multimedia content.
  • Conduct extensive user research, developing user personas, and creating user journey maps to understand the needs, preferences, and pain points of the end-users.
  • Engage in continuous collaboration with cross-functional teams, including developers, product managers, and stakeholders, to iterate and refine design solutions.
Project Research and Collaboration (15% of time)
  • Conduct research and collaboration to understand the unique needs and constraints of state agencies, creating designs that are intuitive, accessible, and tailored to facilitate innovative transformations within the governmental context.
  • Lead a team of diverse student and part-time designers in developing cohesive and insightful design solutions.
  • Ensure that digital and traditional media synergize academic innovation with state operational requirements, leading to enhanced solutions within Utah's governmental structures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Web Design, User Experience (UX) Design, Graphic Design, Computer Science, or related field required. Certification in UX/UI design or related fields preferred.
  • At least three (3) years of professional experience in web design or interface design required. A portfolio showcasing design work, including digital interfaces and websites, required upon request.
  • Knowledge of web design principles, UX/UI design, and accessibility standards.
  • Familiarity with web development languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and potentially back-end languages like Python, PHP, or Ruby.
  • Hands-on experience with web framework applications and client-side code.
  • Proficiency in graphic design software like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.).
  • Experience in testing and optimizing websites for different browser and devices.
  • Knowledge of SEO principles and analytics tools.
  • Effective communication, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.
Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time professional staff (overtime-exempt) position. Annual salary of $72,000, with a desired start date of June/July 2024.
