The Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota invites applications for a term, non-tenure track position at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor, job code 9403T, beginning in the fall semester of 2024. We are searching for an individual who can teach courses in audiology, in both our undergraduate program and our AuD program. This person's primary responsibilities would be in teaching and departmental service. This is a 100% time contract faculty appointment for the 2024/25 academic year, beginning in August 2024 and concluding in May 2025. Appointment will be made at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor, depending on qualifications and experience, and consistent with collegiate and University policy. This contract faculty appointment may be renewable for an additional term, subject to satisfactory performance, curricular and programmatic needs, and continued availability of funding for the position.


Candidates will be evaluated according to the overall quality of their academic preparation, evidence of commitment to and skills in teaching, and strength of recommendations. Candidates will also be evaluated according to evidence of attention to cultural diversity in teaching, research, and/or service and the proven ability to contribute to the University's commitment to equity and diversity.


Duties/Responsibilities:
This individual will be expected to teach five courses total, including no more than two undergraduate courses in audiology, and three or four courses in the AuD program. This individual will provide service to the department, including the AuD program. This will include creating and grading questions for the AuD comprehensive examination(s) corresponding to the classes that they taught, in addition to advising AuD students on general progress in their program. There may be opportunities to collaborate with current tenure-track faculty members on research projects if desired. There may also be opportunities to provide service by supervising graduate students in off-campus hearing screenings.


Contract faculty in the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences in the College of Liberal Arts are expected to develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses; advise AuD students (depending on specialization); and contribute service to the department and profession.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • An AuD degree
  • At least 3 years of clinical experience as a licensed audiologist

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience teaching at the undergraduate or graduate levels.
  • A Ph.D. in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences and Disorders, Neuroscience, Psychology, Education, or other related discipline by the start date.
  • Eligibility for Minnesota Department of Health Audiology License, and ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence.Responsibilities: This individual will be expected to teach five courses total, including no more than two undergraduate courses in audiology, and three or four courses in the AuD program.

Department Overview:

The department offers internationally recognized programs in speech-language hearing sciences (BA, Ph.D.), speech-language pathology (M.A.), and audiology (Au.D.) that provide outstanding opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to pursue academic, educational, and clinical careers. The department hosts a Bilingual Multicultural Emphasis Certificate Program for graduate students in speech-language pathology and audiology. Faculty research and teaching are strongly supported at the unit and collegiate levels. Interdisciplinary collaborations abound across the university.
