We are seeking one laboratory technician at the level of Research Assistant I, who will be responsible for large-scale protein production in mammalian cells to support various projects in a structural biology laboratory.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Creating expression constructs for protein production; large-scale plasmid preparation.
  • Maintaining mammalian cell lines.
  • Testing expression constructs in mammalian cells (HEK293T, CHO cells, etc.).
  • Scaling up the expression in mammalian cells to produce protein in milligram quantities
  • Purifying protein by various chromatographic techniques following established protocols.
  • Performing SDS-PAGE and western blots to monitor proteins at various stages of protein expression and purification.
  • Maintaining inventory of cell culture supplies as well as contributing to general maintenance of the laboratory, equipment, and supplies.

Required Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in the biological sciences.
  • Experience in cell culture or protein expression and purification is a plus.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment are necessary
