Job Description

Albemarle is looking for a Safety Specialist to focus on the safety needs of the Magnolia Plant site and contribute to the development and maintenance of our behavior-based safety programs. The individual will drive prevention of incidents, reduction of injuries, improve response, and develop policies and procedures at a site level that are in line with corporate expectations. The Safety Specialist will also support frontline employee safety performance through audits, engagement, and training.

Role and Responsibilities

- Lead site policy & procedure committee

  • Maintain site policy and procedure database for HSE
  • Ensure HSE policy and procedures are up to date and current with OSHA and Corporate policies
  • Schedule regular meetings
  • Communicate changes to policies to site - tailgates, training, etc.

- Lead safety programs

  • Implement and maintain site safety standards
  • Promote safety initiatives at site level
  • Participate in off-site audit at other Albemarle locations
  • Site VPP champion - Must complete SGE certification within first year
  • Investigate incidents
  • Using Sologic / RCA/ 5 Why
  • Active member of 1 or more SET teams
  • SET guidance team member
  • Lead quarterly SET team meetings

- Manage site PPE matrix - amend, correct, update as needed

- Manage Incident / Issue management reviews with area leaders

  • Track incident reports to completion
  • Issue management - safety recommendations, etc.

- Secondary coverage of West & South plant security guards when needed

  • Verifying DHS daily requirements are being complete (perimeter checks, car searches)
  • Coaching supervisor on manager skills
  • Ensure shipping paperwork and processes are followed

- Assist in the Management of the Safety Advocate program

- Engage SA in all safety-related items - (I.E.)

  • Incident investigations
  • Safety issues resolution
  • Policies, permits, procedures
  • ISN Contractor Management
  • Security
  • PSM
  • ERT
  • SET teams
  • Formal Sologic, RCAs
  • Regional OSHA seminars
  • Meetings: Global HSE call, weekly HSE staff, daily dashboard, HSE weekly - when applicable

- Secondary coverage for ISN contractor management system

  • Contractor approval
  • Contractor Vetting - policies, Insurance requirement, TRIR
  • Safety Program verification
  • Spend 40-50% of time out in the field interacting with site personnel driving cultural changes and looking for hazards
  • Rotating HSE on-call team

Required Qualifications and Education
  • Four-year degree in a HSE related field such as Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Fire Science, or related degree with a minimum 1+ years of experience working in a Safety, Environmental, or PSM (Process Safety Management) position in a facility with flammable/toxic chemicals

Or
  • 5-10+ years of chemical plant HSE experience (certifications a plus, but not required)

Desired Skills
  • Proficient computer skills in, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, SAP, Lenel, Facilex
  • Safety related certifications such as ASP, CSST, CSHO, CIH, CSHM or related
