Distribution Mechanic III - Thermal

Summary
This position is responsible to assist in the maintenance of district steam distribution systems. The incumbent will assist in providing uninterrupted customer service in a safe and productive manner. It requires demonstrating Cordia's Energy Center San Francisco principles of safe work practices, environment stewardship, teamwork, and ethics.
Principal Responsibilities & Key Results
  • Maintain, inspect, and monitor in a safe, reliable, efficient and environmentally sound manner steam distribution system (i.e. vaults, customers prems)
  • Perform duties involved in system repairs, piping and pipe fitting, and troubleshooting distribution equipment to resolve operational problems.
  • Recognizes safety hazards and follows safety guidelines for personal protection, protection of fellow workers and the protection of the public.
  • Works with other maintenance personnel.
  • Perform routine maintenance on a variety of distribution vault equipment, traps, valves, piping systems, etc.
  • Comply with required safety procedures such as Lock Out - Tag Out (LOTO), Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, and any other required by law or company policies.
  • Perform routine cleaning of work area.
  • Must be able to use corporate software systems such as SAP for functions such as recording daily time, coding time and materials to applicable work orders, order and receive materials, complete expense reports and use online training tools to complete training requirements.
  • Employee must have reliable transportation to and from the workplace.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Understanding and/or experience in plumbing and/or industrial piping system design and operation including major components such as valves, vessels, heat exchangers, pumps and turbines.
  • Knowledge of mechanical principles such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, strength and properties of materials,
  • Basic knowledge of maintenance tasks such as isolation, tear down, inspection, reassembly, and testing.
  • Welding/ Cutting experience with Oxy/Acetylene. Welding experience with any/all MIG, TIG and Stick
  • Ability to handle multiple task or assignments at the same time.
  • Ability to use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to perform flow, pressure and meter calculation.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematic diagrams, procedures and technical manuals.
  • Ability to communicate plant system and equipment conditions on to others.
  • Ability to perform checks (e.g., PM's) on running and idle equipment.
  • Ability to perform regulatory safety and environmental inspections.
  • Ability to discern and respond to verbal and auditory signals from control panel.
  • Ability to discern assorted colors.
  • Ability to record and analyze readings of various electrical and mechanical meters.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision while carrying out duties.
  • Ability to operate Company vehicles and equipment (e.g. forklift, plant vehicle, etc.). Valid Driver's License is required.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and associated software.
  • Ability to communicate information clearly in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to assist Operators and Maintenance personnel in performance testing.
  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
Ideal Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent knowledge of English.
  • Three (3) years of experience as a mechanic, pipe fitter, welder, or similar position that produced equivalent experience and skills to match, or three (3)years of experience in a technical trade such as plumbing, electrical, welding, etc.,
  • Three (3) years of military experience would also qualify.
  • Demonstrable mechanical aptitude through work, education, military or personal experience.
