This role is a part of the Test & Flight Operations team, providing centralized support to business units with a focus on the design, build, and maintenance of the ground systems, test, and launch facilities across multiple locations.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and test operations engineers, you will work on the design, development, construction, operation, and maintenance of liquid rocket engine test facilities for various spaceflight systems. You will contribute to the team's progress by participating in all aspects of hands-on engineering and project management.

This position is based in Van Horn, TX; working at the Extreme Engine Experiment (XEEx) test stand, home of our orbital-class, reusable BE-4 rocket engine. Responsibilities:

  • Design, construct, operate, and maintain test facilities to support the development and production of liquid rocket engines
  • Generate and execute test procedures involving high pressure inert and non-inert gas systems and cryogenic fluid systems
  • Review and interpret test data to assess facility health and performance both at the system and component level
  • Specify and procure components and materials; manage vendors and subcontractors
  • Plan and execute facility maintenance and construction of new facility capabilities
  • Contribute to schedule, configuration, quality, cost, and process safety management
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvements to promote workplace safety, meet demanding schedules, and secure cost savings.
  • Shift work and extra hours as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS degree in engineering or related field
  • Understanding of fluid dynamics and thermodynamics
  • Project management, team leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong technical and non-technical writing and verbal skills
  • Desire to take ownership of projects
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and to orchestrate a team of engineers and technicians in the execution of high-consequence test operations
  • Familiar with the following software:
    • LabVIEW
    • AutoCAD P&ID
    • Winplot
    • Windchill
    • Creo
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven technical expertise in spacecraft fluid system test stand design, operation and maintenance:
    • Pressurized Gas Systems
    • Cryogenic Fluid Systems, specifically LOx, LNG, and LN2
    • Instrumentation or DAC systems
    • Liquid rocket propulsion systems
  • Experience with component and system level testing of propulsion and spaceflight hardware through development, qualification, and acceptance test campaigns
  • Demonstrated expertise in the following:
    • Experience working with technicians to perform work on test facilities, handle test articles and lead test operations
    • Performing process hazard and root cause analyses
    • Sizing, selecting, and troubleshooting fluid system components and instrumentation
    • Operating, troubleshooting, and writing software for data acquisition and control systems
  • Knowledge of fabrication and integration processes, systems engineering and quality control practices

Physical Requirements:

  • Test Operations is a physically active, all four (4) seasons role with both indoor and outdoor work requirements, to include rain, wind, cold, heat, & humidity.
  • In addition to outside elements, this role requires:
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs
  • Ability to work at heights
