Organizational Unit Overview
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSDI) prepares individuals for careers in speech-language pathology and audiology. The department's programs have strong administrative support, excellent teaching, research, and clinical facilities, and attract quality students interested in serving. Our mission is to is to educate students to facilitate improvement in the quality of human communication. The current structure of the department includes the associate department chair and program directors reporting to the department chair. The department includes 21 full-time faculty members, is CAA- accredited, and offers programs leading to BS, MS, AuD, and PhD degrees. The department also offers a minor in Speech & Hearing Sciences.

East Carolina University is in Greenville, North Carolina. Greenville is the cultural, educational, medical, and economic center of Eastern North Carolina. The Greenville/Pitt County area has a population of approximately 175,000 and is one hour from the Research Triangle to the west and the Crystal Coast to the east. East Carolina University (28,000 students) is part of a vibrant health care community including ECU Health, a level 1 trauma center and 1400+ bed health system serving more than 1.4 million people in 29 eastern North Carolina counties. The ECU College of Allied Health Sciences has strong working relationships with the ECU College of Health and Human Performance, College of Engineering and Technology, Brody School of Medicine, and School of Dental Medicine. ECU is home to both Army and Air Force ROTC programs and is in proximity to Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine, and Navy bases. The Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders is near the College of Nursing, Laupus Health Sciences Library, Brody School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, and ECU Health Medical Center. Job Duties
Applications are invited for the position of Chair in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS). The chair must be eligible to hold the rank of Clinical Associate Professor or higher. The position is responsible for mentoring the CSDI faculty and providing leadership for the department's activities.

The successful candidate will offer visionary leadership that supports the mission of the department, college, and University by developing and maintaining productive relationships with university administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and other constituents such as consumers, professional organizations, state & federal agencies, foundations, and other nongovernmental organizations.

Specific Duties include:

* Providing administrative support and leadership for the department by communicating priorities, standards, and procedures effectively, articulate vision for the department, promote shared governance and academic freedom within the department and college.
* Providing oversight of the department operations and budget including clinical operations and budget.
* Teaching and conducting research and scholarship in their area of expertise.
* Providing oversight, support, recruitment, development and retention of a competent, diverse, and representative faculty and staff.
* Providing support in evaluating and recommending faculty for promotion/tenure and advancement in rank according to university policies.
* Ability to support faculty research, grant writing opportunities, and additional scholarly creative activities.
* Participating in program development, reviewing processes, curricular changes, accreditation activities, and self-studies.
* Providing teaching assignments within the department.
* Conducting annual performance review of faculty and staff and merit recommendations to the Dean.
* Managing the department and clinic budgets.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Minimum Education/Experience
* Minimum education requirements include a professional doctoral degree, such as AuD, ScD, SLPD (or the equivalent) and/or a PhD from an appropriately accredited institution in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a related discipline.
* Must be eligible to hold an appointment with the rank/title of clinical associate professor, clinical professor within the academic unit code.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
None
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Teaching and research interests in areas of language and literacy preferred but not limited to these areas.
* Expertise in speech, language, or hearing are preferred.
* Record of leadership and faculty mentorship in the areas of research, teaching, and extramural funding.
* Experience in program accreditation.
* Experience in progressively responsible administrative and leadership positions related to teaching, clinic, and research & scholarship.
