Job Summary:

The Director is responsible for Security Services across Allina Health's Southwest Region, which includes our flagship hospital, Abbott Northwestern Hospital.

Directs and manages security services and all related contract services in alignment with system-wide strategies and in a manner that supports the organization's mission in partnership with employees, patients and community. Develops and maintains a service-based culture among departmental staff and vendors that support the operations. Develops and implements policies and programs that reduce security risks and create a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and employees. Intervenes appropriately when conditions pose an immediate threat to life, health, or property.

Location: This role requires a frequent onsite presence within Allina Health's service area. This is not a full-time work from home role.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Designs and implements the strategic vision.
    • Develops, implements and manages the strategies, initiatives and tactical planning to include Security Operations Centers, Threat Management, Investigations, Enterprise Risk Services and Technology to achieve operational goals and objectives.
    • Aligns programs and services with the organization's mission, vision, values and strategies.
  • Directs and provides oversight of security personnel, programs and projects.
    • Develops and manages business critical projects and programs with significant financial, reputational and/or legal impact.
    • Creates and implements policies, procedures, standards, training, and methods for identifying and protecting intellectual property, assets, personnel, property, facilities, operations or material from unauthorized disclosure, misuse, theft, assault, vandalism, tampering sabotage or significant loss or as otherwise identified.
    • Develops, implements and manages planning and coordination of the security function including complex security improvement projects across business units in alignment with the organization's overall business objectives.
    • Develops document standards for measuring efficiency and effectiveness and implements procedures to obtain, maintain, secure, analyze, account for and provide information from assessment reports.
    • Manages and mentors team members to include hiring and onboarding, performance management and development.
  • Oversees on-site security management.
    • Develops plans, organizes and directs the activities of on-site security management, internal and contracted services to external parties.
    • Ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and meeting organizational and customer needs.
  • Leads partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Develops business plans for and maintains public relations with municipal authorities, local public safety departments, high-level law enforcement, and intelligence and private sector counterparts.
    • Represents department with leadership facilitating and participating on internal and external committees and work groups.
    • Other duties as assigned.


Critical Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Emergency Services, Business, Project Management, Psychology, Sociology or relevant field required
  • Master's degree in Criminal Justice, Emergency Services, Business, Project Management, Psychology, Sociology or relevant field preferred
  • 7+ years in healthcare security and/or corporate security required
  • Prior Healthcare delivery experience, including working knowledge of both hospitals and clinics, is strongly preferred
  • 7+ years in progressive leadership positions in relevant field required

Additional Requirements and Preferences

  • FEMA100-Intro to Incident Command System - FEMA Management institute required within 180 Days and
  • FEMA200-ICS Single Res-Initial Action - FEMA Management institute required within 180 Days and
  • FEMA700-Natl Inc Mgmt System-Intro - FEMA Management institute required within 180 Days
  • required Valid Driver's License
  • FEMA300-Interm ICS for Expanding Inc - FEMA Management institute preferred
  • FEMA400-Advanced ICS - FEMA Management institute preferred
  • Board Certified Protection Professional by the American Society for Industrial Security (supervisor level) International Association of Hospital Safety and Security preferred
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) preferred
  • Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI) preferred
  • Physical Security Professional (PSP) preferred
  • Professional Certified Investigator (PCI) preferred
