Distribution Mechanic Lead

The following list of duties is not all inclusive and is meant to serve as a guide for the scope of work to be carried out by the Distribution Mechanic

  • Provide Technical advice and training to other personnel assigned to distribution system inspection and maintenance work; ensure that safety requirements are followed.
  • Maintain distribution system maintenance records and spare parts inventory; make recommendations to the Distribution Manager regarding parts to be ordered.
  • Monitor distribution system maintenance and documentation to assure that tasks are being properly completed. Report problems and provide advice to the Distribution Manager.
  • Interface with contractors performing work on distribution system installation and maintenance work; in cooperation with I&C department, monitor installation of new customer meters.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Distribution manager (i.e plant maintenance, facility cleaning, customer meter reading, etc.).
  • Initiate work requests in Computerized Maintenance Mgmnt System (CMMS) for distribution equip requiring maintenance and meet weekly with Distribution Manager to schedule, plan and coordinate work.
  • Lead pre-job briefings, review and assist Distribution Manager with weekly and daily work assignments and attend meetings with others as required by management.
  • Assist in developing and maintain work history and maintenance schedule in CMMS.
  • Assist Distribution Management with project development and execution.
  • Support Distribution management with training distribution technicians and other plant personnel as necessary.
  • Perform functions of Distribution technicians as the need arises.
  • Be responsible for PA 1 calls, from receiving the calls, to marking the lines as necessary.

Knowledge & Skills

  • High school education
  • Mechanical aptitude and skill set as evaluated by the Distribution Manager
  • Sufficient physical attributes to be able to perform the rigors of working in hot (with exposure to and working around temperatures that can reach 120F) and cold locations, to work in confined spaces, to have the ability to work on ladders, to go up and down those ladders frequently, to be able to lift up to 75 lbs, and to be able to work on feet for numbers of consecutive hours
  • Valid Pennsylvania motor vehicle operator's license/ DOT medical card.
  • Ability to advise and train other personnel assigned to distribution system inspection and maintenance.
  • Willing and able to lead a crew of distribution technicians in the field.

Experience & Education Requirements

  • High school education
  • 5 Years experience in Pipefitting/welding, or industrial plant experience.
  • In lieu of experience, Associate's degree relevant engineering/tradeskill training will be accepted and 2 years experience
  • Background in steam and chilled water operation, including, thermal expansion of piping, operation of traps, expansion joints, cathodic protection systems, PRV's, etc is preferred.
  • ASME 6G Stick Welding Certification or ability to acquire them within 6 months of hire.
