Job Summary:

Provides direct supervision of respiratory staff. Serves as a clinical resource, educator, communication liaison, and role model of professional respiratory care practice. Plans, implements, coordinates, and evaluates patient care activities, staff education, and management activities.

Key Position Details:

Job Description:

Principle Responsibilities

  • Coordinates daily operations of the Respiratory Care Department.
    • Identifies and responds to changes and/or problems with department activities.
    • Collaborates with staff to ensure quality and scope of service.
    • Adjusts staffing and approves OT based on predetermined guidelines.
    • Participates in direct patient care, when necessary.
  • Supervises Respiratory Care staff.
    • Recruits and hires for respiratory care positions.
    • Onboards, orients, and provides ongoing coaching, mentoring and support to staff.
    • Provides leadership, management, oversight and work direction. Establishes clear expectations and deliverables.
    • Conducts annual evaluations and necessary corrective action for assigned staff.
    • Determines workload balance and distributes volume of work among staff.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Designs work processes and direct work performance to be in compliance with all policies, rules and regulations, accreditation standards and laws that apply.
    • Ensures all departmental mandatory education and competency requirements are completed.
  • Establishes and maintains departmental quality standards.
    • Challenges staff to enhance customer service by setting high standards and promoting their involvement.
    • Collects and analyzes departmental data related to customer satisfaction.
    • Follows through to resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
    • Identifies opportunities to improve care and responds appropriately.
  • Identifies and assesses patient and employee safety issues.
    • Analyzes data, develops action plans and implements processes to address patient and employee safety issues.
    • Protects patients, self and others from injury and accidents by maintaining a safe environment and using equipment properly.
    • Reviews all patient and employee occurrences, takes corrective action, and reports appropriately within established timeframes.
    • Assesses effectiveness of actions taken to improve safety.
    • Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited healthcare related program within 24 months of hire required
  • Master's degree from an accredited healthcare related program preferred
  • 2 to 5 years experience in Respiratory Therapy required
  • 5 to 7 years experience in Respiratory Therapy preferred
  • 2 to 5 years leadership experience required
  • Licensed Respiratory Therapist - MN Board of Medical Practice required by location of employment and
  • Licensed Respiratory Therapist - WI Dept of Safety & Professional Services required by location of employment and
  • BLS Tier 1 - Basic Life Support - Multisource required and
  • PEARS-Ped Emerg Assess Recog Stabilize - Multisource required at sites providing pediatric care within 180 Days
  • PALS - Pediatric Advance Life Support - Allina Health required at sites providing pediatric care within 180 Days
  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation - Multisource required at sites providing neonatal care within 180 Days
  • required Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care
  • ACLS-BLS Tier 2 - Multisource preferred

Medium Work*:
