About the Job

The Assistant Director assists the Director in providing Office for Conflict Resolution (OCR) services to the University community. The Assistant Director also assists in developing and implementing the vision, leadership and management oversight for OCR's programs and services, and fulfills the Office's administrative functions. The Assistant Director must maintain a high level of professionalism in responding to the needs of faculty, staff, and student employees, must be proactive, and must be able to think independently and prioritize competing responsibilities. OCR's conflict resolution work has a significant impact on the individuals and units involved. The Assistant Director's conflict resolution expertise, attention to administrative detail, and commitment to equity and diversity is critical. The Assistant Director reports directly to the OCR Director.

The Assistant Director position is a full-time, year-round, civil service position (Admin Assoc 3; job code 208A3). The University offers a competitive compensation package, commensurate with experience and background, and excellent benefits. The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administrative Duties (25%)
* Serve as the main point of contact for OCR phone and email inquiries.
* Perform day-to-day administrative office management, including scheduling, managing the budget, purchasing supplies, managing website content, managing office technology, maintaining case file records, and managing data systems, among other things.

Program Management Duties (25%)
* Oversee the distribution and evaluation of client surveys to identify trends and training opportunities.
* Develop and implement strategies to improve OCR services.
* Prepare annual reports, and other informational materials, on the work of the office.
* Coordinate with other University offices that offer services to employees.
* Complete other duties as assigned that support the Office's mission.


Dispute Resolution, Consultation, and Education (50%)
* Conduct intake interviews, confidential consultations, and facilitated dialogues to assist employees with employment-related conflicts.
* Exercise a high level of discretion in handling the private, sensitive nature of the information received in the Office relating to concerns.
* Attend tactfully to the many points of view and sensitivities of various parties involved in a conflict resolution process while maintaining the confidentiality, impartiality, and independence of the Office.
* Provide educational outreach and training on conflict resolution strategies.

Qualifications

Required:
* Bachelor's degree with at least 4 years of experience in mediation or conflict resolution, or a combination of related education and work experience equal to eight years.
* Exceptional communication, interpersonal skills, and emotional intelligence.
* Ability to work independently and efficiently and to balance workload.
* Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
* Demonstrated experience in, and an ongoing commitment to, working effectively with and across diverse communities: including people of color, underrepresented groups and new immigrant populations; American Indians; people with both visible and invisible disabilities; women; people of various gender and sexual identities and expressions; and first-generation students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Preferred:
* Masters degree in conflict resolution, peacemaking, mediation or related field.
* Experience working in higher education or in human resources or another employment-related field.
* Supervision experience.

The (OCR) at the University of Minnesota provides conflict resolution services to University faculty, staff, and students who are experiencing employment-related conflicts. OCR's services include confidential consultations, facilitated dialogues, and mediations. OCR serves all system campuses and is a neutral, independent office. OCR is part of the University's (OED).
