Research Description
The Total-Coverage Ultra-fast Response to Binary-Mergers Observatory (TURBO) is a project funded by the National Science Foundation. TURBO will consist of two sets of rapid-response, small-aperture telescopes that will be located at Magdalena Ridge Observatory (MRO) in New Mexico and Skinakas Observatory in Crete, Greece. The person hired into position will participate in the installation and commissioning of the instrument, as well as the development of custom hardware for the telescopes.

Job Duties
This position will be responsible for the following duties. 50% development of hardware for braking mechanism to be used with friction drive. 30% Development of offset mechanism using linear actuator system. 20% Installation and commissioning of telescopes. Other duties of a similar scope as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
Need to have a BA/BS in astronomy, physics, or an engineering-related major. Technical ability including in design and engineering, and experience with the Solidworks software package. Ability to create engineering drawings, and work with the machine shop.

Preferred Qualifications
Ability to program using the Python language, coursework in astrophysics, excellent communication skills, and experience testing hardware are preferred requirements for the position.
