Position Description

Contributes to the university's mission through teaching, in an academic unit. Train under the supervision and direction of a faculty mentor who will provide the opportunity for collaborative and independent teaching. A postdoc appointment is for a minimum of one year with the possibility of annual re-appointment for up to four additional years, for a total not to exceed five years.

About the College

About the Department/School/Area

The Anthropology Program in the Department of SASW has eight full-time tenured and tenure-track anthropologists as well as instructors, and affiliated faculty in other departments. We offer both bachelors' and masters' degrees. Our undergraduate majors have the option of pursuing a concentration in forensic anthropology, which is an area of strength and growth for the department. Major/Essential Functions

The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work (SASW) at Texas Tech University invites applications for an Archaeology Postdoc position to begin September 1, 2024. The position is for three years with the possibility of renewal for a fourth year. The successful applicant should be a computational archaeologist with experience in analyzing lidar data, conducting archaeological survey, and examining ancient settlement patterns in mountainous regions. We seek a scholar who complements but does not duplicate the research of our current faculty.

The successful candidate is a scholar who can teach courses in computational archaeology, GIS, and lidar data analysis and be responsive to student and department needs. This candidate should be able to contribute to the curriculum by teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in these areas as well as support faculty research. S/he may have an opportunity to develop courses related to his or her specializations.

Faculty Qualifications

PhD in Archaeology or related field at the time of the appointment is required. ABDs will not be considered. Experience teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level and expertise in analyzing lidar data are also required.
