Process Development Technician

Pilot Plant-Vadnais Heights, MN

Schedule

  • Monday - Friday

  • 5am - 1:30pm

Primary Responsibilities

  • Operate chemical process equipment to generate samples of new products and semi-commercial products. Pull raw materials for batches, perform QC testing, and clean process equipment.

  • This is a day shift position

  • Follow all health, safety and environmental rules and regulations. Read and understand MSDS' and choose proper protective equipment

  • Become certified on two or more product types and associated process equipment

  • Provide back-up support for Sr. Process Development Technician in the areas of training and coordinating reactor room activities

  • Operate with reasonable level of independence

  • Produce and package semi-commercial quantities of products - typically 70%. Maintain high quality standard for all products

  • Generate samples of new products. Assist process engineers with developing commercial processes for new products and improving existing processes - typically 20%

  • Operate computerized process control system, read and follow process procedures, observe and record process data

  • Perform standard and advanced QC tests on batches. Pull materials for batch and perform SAP production reporting

  • Clean reactors and mixers following production of a batch

  • Maintain clean and safe working environment. Keep process equipment and surrounding area clean, practice 5S. Keep raw materials and finished goods in the proper location

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • One year chemical industrial experience demonstrating mechanical competency and making batches of material

  • Ability to wear half face or full face respirator

  • Ability to understand chemical process piping/flow systems and the different types of process pumps, valves and instrumentation

  • High Mechanical aptitude

  • Ability to handle 55 gallon drums and 55 pound bags of material

  • Ability to safely operate a standup forklift (training will be provided)

  • Solid oral and written communication skills

  • Experience with or the ability to learn Microsoft Excel and SAP

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of chemical process and equipment with experience working in pilot plant or chemical manufacturing operations, especially operating chemical reactors, compounding, or mixing; lab technician experience, including following test methods; mechanical proficiency; science and engineering coursework

  • Special consideration given to candidates with AA degrees or Certifications in Laboratory, Engineering Technology, or Mechanical Technology fields

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location.

The salary for this role is $26/hr.
