Essential Functions

Job Summary

Function:
The Associate Athletic Director of Fan Engagement will provide leadership for fan/community engagement, marketing, and game day experience to help drive revenue and fan/student attendance through the development and implementation of an innovative and strategic fan engagement and marketing strategy.

The successful candidate will utilize industry-wide best practices, game day environment, and community partnerships to actively engage fans, enhance fan acquisition, and grow affinity for UTSA Athletics. Supervise and direct the external areas of marketing and community engagement. Serves as a key member of the leadership team; reporting directly to Senior Associate AD for Strategic Communications.

Core Responsibilities
  1. Day-to-day oversight of the Marketing and Fan Engagement Department.
  2. Enhances and manages athletics department fan engagement opportunities on game days including pregame activities, the in-game environment/atmosphere, and other programming and strategies that result in extraordinary experiences for fans.
  3. Responsible for creating and implementing an aggressive marketing and promotion plan with an emphasis on increased revenue, fan attendance, and game experience, including increasing awareness and attendance, engaging students, and enhancing customer experience.
  4. Responsible for coordinating all special events, including Let's Go 210 Day, Hispanic Heritage Games, etc.
  5. Collaborates with Assistant AD for Creative Services to develop compelling and engaging video board content.
  6. Collaborates with campus and external partners to achieve the goals of increasing fan engagement, revenue generation, and brand/program exposure. Serves as liaison with the UTSA Spirit of San Antonio Band and serves as a representative on the Marketing Advisory Board. Responsible for developing relationships with UTSA Student Affairs, Student Organizations, Greek Life, etc., to increase student attendance at games.
  7. Oversight of the Conference's marketing initiatives.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.









Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of relevant work experience in collegiate athletics or professional sports and direct marketing, fan engagement, communications, branding, and storytelling concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques for a Division 1 Athletic Department.
  • Experience hiring, training, and managing staff.
  • Experience managing projects from ideation through execution.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and highly developed interpersonal interaction skills including the ability to exchange and interpret information to influence others.
  • Established a history of directing multiple external units and revenue generation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to create a budget, manage expenses, and negotiate vendor and personnel contracts.
  • Ability to work as a member of a collaborative, high-performing team.
  • Innovative, out-of-the-box thinker.
  • Working knowledge of the NCAA rules, guidelines, and principles.
  • Must be an effective communicator, with a strong ability to relate well to students and staff, as well as the community.
  • Thorough knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.





Preferred Qualification
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Five (5) years of experience working in collegiate athletics or professional sports and direct experience in marketing, fan engagement, communications, branding, and storytelling concepts, principles,
    procedures, and techniques for a Division 1 Athletic Department.
  • Three (3) years of experience managing fan experiences and in-game promotions.
  • Experience in analytics and the ability to develop analytical reports as well as make data-driven decisions.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, Sound Director software, video production software, and workflows.
  • Experience managing contractors.

  • Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.



This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
