About the Job

Overview

The Clinical Education Coordinator is a key component to the coordination of the clinical experiences in Years 3 and 4 and works collaboratively with clinical faculty and staff, as well as affiliate/community sites, medical school staff, students, and administration. The Clinical Education Coordinator performs essential functions to assist in the delivery of clinical education and contributes to the analysis, development, communication, implementation, and review of clinical experiences, processes and procedures.

Starting salary of $55,000

Duties/Responsibilities

Data Collection and Reporting 25%

  • Gather data from the clinical departments for accurately reporting hours of clinical training in a patient care setting to the Medical School Finance Office and answer MERC-related questions from clinical sites
  • Respond to requests for student, course, and onboarding data


Medical Student Onboarding for the VA Medical Center, MHealth Fairview, and Other Clinical Sites 50%

  • Respond to questions from coordinators, students, academic advisors, and clinical site staff regarding medical student onboarding
  • Distribute and monitor student completion of Epic Electronic Medical Record System training to all first year students
  • Work with HealthPartners to facilitate the creation of SS4L profiles for all first year students
  • Work with health systems to develop early onboarding workflows
  • Communicate with students, departments, health systems, and academic advisors to ensure onboarding completion
  • Troubleshoot and continuously work to make improvements to onboarding processes, specifically focusing on the Clinician Nexus onboarding system
  • Oversee and update access to Clinician Nexus for course coordinators
  • Prioritize building relationships with education office/onboarding staff at the affiliate health systems
  • Attend biweekly MEdIS scheduling system meetings to stay informed regarding tech needs related to Clinician Nexus onboarding system
  • Oversee student worker, assigning onboarding-related tasks and meeting weekly to train, check for understanding, and provide feedback and support

25%: Early Clinical Experience (ECE) Placement Management

  • Collaborate with Early Clinical Experience (ECE) course director to administer ECE program within health systems as part of the Clinical Skills course.
  • Recruit preceptors to host students
  • Manage/update spreadsheets for tracking preceptors and site information
  • Schedule students to preceptors based on student preferences and locations based on student needs for transportation and schedule.
  • Assist with onboarding of students, following students through the onboarding process to completion
  • Administer the onboarding process for all ECE students placed at the VA Medical Center both on the University of Minnesota side and on the VA Medical Center side, utilizing RMS and New Innovations onboarding system
  • Continuously monitor and improve processes yearly to improve efficiency of process annually.
Qualifications

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree plus at least two years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least six years
  • Demonstrated ability to work within and across teams
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Previous experience with Medical Education
  • Willingness to learn and accept responsibility of tasks at hand
  • Creative problem-solving
  • Project management experience
