Job Description

This position will work 12 hour shifts: 6:30am-7:00pm.

Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for assisting staff in the coordination of intra-and inter-departmental activities and communication. Assists with patient-related activities under the supervision of the RN.

Job Functions

  1. Process physician orders.
  2. Communicates pertinent information regarding unit/department activates to appropriate staff.
  3. Processes admissions, transfers, discharges, and schedules appointments.
  4. Restocks and orders supplies for unit/area.
  5. Completes assigned clerical responsibilities.
  6. Performs support functions for management staff as required.
  7. Maintains the flow of the department by coordinating care of the patient between other departments.
  8. Demonstrates competencies in the specialty area of Two Medical.
  9. Provides professional and courteous customer service to internal and external customers.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Work Experience

  • High School graduate or equivalent

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong communicates and listening skills
  • Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
  • Knowledge of basic computer functions
  • Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a team
  • Capable of making independent decisions wit the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work and multi-task in a high stress and fast paced environment
  • Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions mentioned above

License/Certifications

  • Current Health Care Provider CPR certification or certification obtained within 90- days of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of Health Unit Coordinator course
  • Previous HUC experience
  • Experience in hospital setting
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
