The Antimicrobial and Biocatalyst Anchor Team is seeking a Principal Chemist to engage in product development and technical platform research efforts. The role requires strong expertise in formulation science and will focus primarily on developing enzyme platform technology. The successful candidate will work across multiple divisions of Ecolab and build strong relationships with commercialization teams and suppliers to connect emerging technologies withEcolabcustomer needs. The position requires the ability to work independently in the laboratory setting, perform thorough literature reviews, establish research plans and provide reports with statistically sound data. The role invites the individual to contribute to the generation of new product concepts and the necessary experimental methods to establish the fundamental chemistry to support product pipelines. The successful candidate will be someone who brings enthusiasm to driving projects to completion with collaborative interactions. What You Will Do:

  • Develop enzyme chemistry, formulation concepts, and analytical methods before transferring findings to commercialization and service teams

  • Collaborate with anchor and divisional research scientists on new development projects and platforms

  • Pursue research that supports strategic business objectives for the development of new platforms and products, including through collaboration with key suppliers

  • Design and execute scientifically and statistically sound experiments and develop test methods to advance specific project goals

  • Prepare technical updates and reports that include data analysis, conclusions and recommendations based on bench-top and applications testing

  • Actively seek IP opportunities to secure product technologies

  • Communicate experimental results clearly to team members and project teams in written reports and oral presentations

  • Develop broad knowledge ofEcolabproducts and customer needs and use this to identify targets for improving products through use of new enzyme-based technologies

  • Field studies: Ability to support transition of lab-based testing to field test with ongoing collaboration with business partners and end use customers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Chemistry or related field and R&D experience; a Master's Degree in Chemistry or related field and 3 or more years of R&D experience; a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or related field and 5 or more years of R&D experience

  • Experience in a combination of several of the following: formulation chemistry; performance and stability testing of product formulations; spectroscopic monitoring of reactions, enzyme kinetics; quantitative methods; small-volume manipulations; statistical design and analysis of experiments; method development and validation.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and consistent attention to detail

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research independently and as part of a highly collaborative team, balancing the priorities of multiple research projects

  • Ability to travel up to 15%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing enzyme assays

  • 2+ years of research experience involving protein chemistry or enzyme catalysis

  • Master's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related discipline with strong chemistry component and 1-3 years of experience working in an R&D environment
