Role Summary
As a Manager, UX Design you are tasked with leading a team of Designers at a variety of levels to help them meet the demands of the products you support. In order to be effective in this role you need a keen understanding of the organizations OKRs with a passion for helping people deliver key results. Always a coach, you need to be able to assess performance and be prepared to have difficult conversations where appropriate while motivating your designers to be their best. The best Managers have developed a unique skillset of problem solving, strong communication, and a wide range of core UX skills and tool knowledge to lead by example and help train. Collaboration is key in this role and partnering with leaders in Product and Engineering is paramount in this role.

About the Team
The UX Product Design team is looking for a passionate design manager to join our cross-discipline user experience team solving complex problems for our customers in the legal and accounting space across the world. Our team loves solving tough problems and we hope you do too. Our work spans mobile, tablet, and desktop mobile experiences for all types of users. The team focusses on high-quality execution and high collaboration with our partners in product management and product engineering. It is an exciting time to work for Thomson Reuters as we move to bring the next-generation of software-as-a-service products to our customers.

About the Role
As a Manager, UX Design you will:

  • Model - You set the bar for your team by establishing what great design means at Thompson Reuters. You look for opportunities to influence our designs, ensuring the team is delivering on expectations that support impactful customer experiences. You attract and develop great talent while elevating your existing team. You contribute to the practice of design to identify and implement improvements to products, people, and processes.
  • Coach - You create and communicate clear goals for your team outlining the expectations that support the delivery of meaningful work against the teams' OKRs. You establish a trusting relationship with your team as well as your peers creating partnerships that build on ideas and excel understanding. The effectiveness of the team is a direct correlation to your ability to lead them.
  • Care - You provide guidance and direction to focus your team on delivery. You hold yourself and your team accountable for the success of your product(s) and always ground your decisions in data. Through supportive behavior, you nurture the wellbeing and success of your team. As a leader, you are an inspiration for team etiquette and inclusion, building on diversity as well as demonstrating progress.


About You
You're a fit for this role of Manager, UX Design, if you have:
Basic qualifications:

  • BA/BS in information science, information design, computer science, human computer interaction (HCI), instructional design, learning technology, assistive technology, related field or equivalent industry training / experience
  • 8+ years experience working on complex applications in an interaction design, content strategy, UX writing, information design, user interface design, human factors engineering, user experience, or information architect position
  • 2+ years managing design teams,
  • Proficiency of your craft with a passion to extend your knowledge of UX design principles, modern design tools, emerging technologies, Agile development, accessibility and industry practices and trends through your team
  • A portfolio of work demonstrating your experience, understanding, and process of creating human-centered design solutions with measurable results
  • Experience partnering and delivering with groups across the organization including Product Management, Engineering, Sales and Marketing
  • Confidence working with strong, passionate partners - balancing competing priorities and goals in fast-paced environments
  • Influence skills and be able to effectively deal with ambiguous situations and make decisions.
  • Excellent communication, storytelling, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills; the ability to communicate complex interaction concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization.
  • Learning agility and ability to apply critical thinking to increasingly complex and changing work

Preferred qualifications:

  • BA/BS in graphic design, fine art, visual communications, HCI or related field (or equivalent industry training / experience)
  • Familiarity with: Web standards (W3C and 508) / best practices for interaction design and Accessibility
  • Agency Experience a plus
