Starkey Hearing is hiring a Plastic Injection Lab Technician to join our team in Glencoe, MN on our 2nd shift. If you enjoy a challenge and small batch runs, and are looking for a hands on opportunity this could be for you. This position is responsible for supporting the production of plastic molded parts within the Injection Lab. Other duties include: the development of new injection molding processes, injection molding tooling, over-all improvement of existing molding processes and the development and support of the drum coating painting process. This position's hours is slated for 3:00 PM - 1:30AM (Monday - Thursday; 4 ten hour days/ week).

Responsibilities

  • Create, develop, and document injection-molding processes for new production and prototype tooling.
  • Using personal experience, training, molding equipment, and new tooling, create, develop, and document injection-molding processes for new production and prototype tooling.
  • Provide input on tooling and molded part design.
  • Provide input on tooling and molded part design by attending tooling design reviews and direct interface with Mechanical Design Engineers and Tooling Design.
  • Provide input on tooling changes that improve tool function, cost reduction or part quality.
  • Provide input on tooling changes that improve tool function, cost reduction or part quality via direct interface with Injection Lab Manager, Starkey Quality, various Starkey Manufacturing groups, Mechanical Design Engineers and Tooling Design.
  • Provide input into technological advancements.
  • Provide input into technological advancements to various Engineering groups and (or) the Manager of the Injection Lab regarding equipment, tooling designs or other pertinent technologies.
  • Provide input into equipment needs, requirements and purchases.
  • Provide input into equipment needs, requirements and purchases via personal experience, attendance at tradeshows and research.
  • Maintain ISO requirements for the Injection Lab.
  • Maintain ISO requirements for the Injection Lab using Starkey's ISO process.
  • Interface with Tooling, Engineering, Quality and Materials Management personnel.
  • Interface with Tooling, Engineering, Quality and Materials Management personnel by meeting attendance, face to face or group meetings.
  • Provide input on part design as how it can affect painted part finish.
  • Using personal experience and training communicate to part and tooling design any effects of said designs on finished painted part quality.
  • Create, develop, and document drum coating processes for prototype and production painting applications.
  • Using personal experience, training, and drum coating equipment create, develop, and document drum coating processes for prototype and new production painting needs.
  • Support the production processes on the drum coating machine
  • Using personal experience, training, and drum coating equipment support production drum coating processes.
  • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned

Job Requirements

Education

Plastics Technical Degree or equivalent experience.

Experience

Minimum of 6 years' experience in injection molding industry if they possess a Plastics Technology Certificate. Secondary operations (i.e. decorating, automation, assembly, etc.) would be desired.

Knowledge / Technical Requirements

  • Knowledge of thermoplastic resins and their processing requirements.
  • Knowledge of production and related processes
  • Knowledge of painting and other decorative finishes.

Competencies, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to operate required equipment.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and mechanical ability.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with changing priorities.
  • Quality control analysis
  • Basic computer skills
