Job Title:Technician, Environmental, Health & Safety I

Location:Stillwater, MN

Job Scope

The Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Technician will provide EHS support to the facility. Assist with implementing procedures and policies that result in conformance with environmental, health and safety regulations and the protection of employees and the environment. Assist in evaluating applicable regulations, and determining applicability to company operations. Assist with the coordination of trainings and the promotion of a positive safety culture. Utilize problem solving skills to assist in in the development and implementation of safety processes and improvements. Continue to read and research relevant subject matter to maintain current knowledge and to develop competencies within the EHS field. The EHS Technician will be a primary support function for employees in labs, and operational areas within Diasorin.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing, implementing and assuring compliance for chemical, biological and general safety policies and procedures that result in protection of the employees and the environment.
  • Assist with waste management, including hazardous waste, to assure collection, storage, transportation and final disposal of waste is in compliance with local, state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Evaluate waste chemicals and determine appropriate waste stream classification.
  • Participate in DiaSorin's safety training programs and demonstrate competency in the use and management of Safety Data Sheets, chemical labeling, corporate emergency response procedures, and DiaSorin's Health, Safety, and Environmental policies.
  • Assist and participate as a member of the applicable response teams with DiaSorin's emergency response program to result in increased loss control in the event of an emergency.
  • Monitor, update and improve when necessary response procedures.
  • Assist in organizing and executing emergency drills including medical, spill, fire and severe weather.
  • Participate in implementing training processes that inform employees of EHS requirements and safety procedures and policies
  • Assist with development and delivery of safety training programs
  • Conduct routine facility EHS audits. Produce supporting documentation for findings and assist with the follow-up and the implementation of the corrective actions
  • Assist with regulatory reporting to federal, state, and local agencies
  • Assist with accident and incident reporting and investigation. Work with department heads on investigation and root cause analysis to mitigate incidents and accidents in the future.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to a safe work environment, leading by example
  • Perform weekly and monthly EHS inspections, including but not limited to: safety shower and eyewash testing, fume hood flow monitoring, and waste inspections.
  • Promote open channels of communication throughout the organization through continual thoughtful and open communications.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and acts as a resource to the group.
  • Promote through interactions a culture that supports trusting relationships and ethical leadership.
  • Understand and utilize GDP and EHS requirements to accurately and legibly complete all documentation.
  • Follow DiaSorin's established compliance procedures designed to ensure that all regulatory requirements are met.
  • Perform work in a safe manner consistent with DiaSorin's health, safety and environmental policies and assume responsibility for personal safety and that of co-workers to result in a safe work environment for all employees and the protection of the environment and the community at large.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Required
    • High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate
    • Experience working with chemicals and biological materials in manufacturing or laboratory setting
    • Basic understanding of environmental, occupational health and safety regulations at local, state and federal levels (OSHA, EPA, DOT/IATA), and able to apply these regulatory requirements and good practices within a manufacturing setting
    • Good written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work with diverse employee population and all levels
    • Good problem solving skills
    • Ability to manage projects with moderate supervision, including good planning, time management, and organizational skills
    • Good mathematical and calculation skills
    • Ability to understand and communicate complicated issues and problems
  • Preferred
    • Professional certifications (ASP, CHMP, CSP, CHMM, HAZWOPER, IATA/DGR)
    • Understanding of EU regulations and CLP
    • Forklift operator certification
