Twin Cities PBS (TPT) is one of the most innovative public media organizations in the country. Every day, TPT uses the power of media to advance the arts, spur learning, help young people succeed and help adults age vitally. TPT presents extraordinary PBS programming and also produces award-winning content for the national PBS system.

This position supports pop-up and intermittent in-person educational programming across TPT's viewing area. This role is a part-time temporary role starting in mid-May and ending mid-August.

Salary: $22/hour

MAJOR AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY (95% of time)

In partnership with Lifelong Learning staff:

  • Staff events that support TPT's mission around lifelong learning, particularly during summer months.
  • Travel to sites across the Twin Cities metro and occasionally greater Minnesota.
  • Set-up and tear-down of tabling configuration and activities.
  • Pack, refresh and organize activities, noting where more or different materials are needed.
  • Support purchasing and transport of new materials.
  • Implement activities in an age-appropriate and upbeat manner.
  • Suggest new activities and/or iterations on existing activities, based on community needs and strengths.
  • Interact with children, parents and caregivers.
  • Answer and/or refer questions about TPT writ large.
  • Act as a professional and positive TPT ambassador.
  • Serve as guide/companion for PBS costumed characters
  • Serve (in a rotating fashion) as site leader for different events.

Other duties as assigned (5% of time)

  • Participate as an active member of the Lifelong Learning Team. Contribute to shared goals and collaborate with colleagues on achievement of priorities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's or associate's degree or equivalent experience in education, communications or relevant field.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of non-profit and or/ a formal/informal educational program experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in developing and facilitating culturally responsive programming for diverse audiences.

Preferred Experience

  • Bachelor's or associate's degree.
  • Sees diverse experiences and perspectives as the essential components of a successful educational initiative.
  • Familiarity with collaborative approaches.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Able to adapt and tailor communication to meet audience needs, with bi/multilingual ability preferred (with an emphasis on Spanish, Hmong, Somali, Karen and English).
  • Strong organizational skills, demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, work independently, and the ability to meet deadlines for time sensitive assignments.
  • Fluent user of Microsoft Office (e.g. PowerPoint, Word, Excel) and Teams.
  • Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel.
