Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, is seeking an experiencedMaintenance Technician / Millwright at our La Porte, TX facility.

The facility assets include HyCO/Syngas plant, an Air Separation Unit, and a Liquid Hydrogen unit. These units provide a variety of industrial gas products to Air Products extensive array of customers through various pipelines and truck loading stations. A background in maintaining pumps, mechanical seals, vessels, filters, strainers, exchangers, piping, relief valves, gear drives, and reciprocating and centrifugal compressors or turbines is essential for this position. The La Porte facility is a 24/7 operation and incumbent must be willing to work overtime as required, and willing to take 24 hour on call responsibilities on a rotating basis.

The Maintenance Mechanical Technician / Millwright will be responsible for maintaining / troubleshooting all equipment and facility maintenance. You will provide necessary technical and hands on support to continuously improve plant rotating and stationary equipment integrity, reliability, cost, and on-stream performance.

Core Responsibilities and Duties

• Participate actively in department/plant safety programs. Promote safety rules and regulations as well as environmental compliance.
• Perform and/or supervise routine and breakdown inspection, repair, troubleshooting, modification, installation and commissioning of mechanical equipment such as centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, cryogenic pumps, gear drives, steam turbines, vessels, heat exchangers, centrifugal expanders
• Develop work scopes for equipment repair and overhaul.
• Prepare and provide technical reports. Enter information into CMMS system (SAP) to provide accurate documentation on equipment and information.
• Provide the necessary technical leadership to continuously improve machinery condition and reliability.
• Develop worn component refurbishment procedures and follow through on repairs and spare parts replacements based on Machinery Engineering recommendations.
• Update and/or create maintenance manual/procedures for certain equipment as needed
• Engage actively in a team environment, bring a positive attitude, maintain personal accountability, and provide mentoring and coaching for team member development.
• Participate in the planning and execution of minor and major shutdowns. Provide technical and hands on support as required during shutdowns
• Expectation to become an Air Products crane lift supervisor, to include rigging and flagging qualifications
• Drive company vehicles safely

Qualifications

• Ability to perform alignments (Rotalign Pro or equivalent)
• Ability to read drawings
• Knowledge of various pumps and compressors
• Knowledge of equipment lubrication practices & procedures. Preferred Level 1 Machinery Lubrication Technician (MLT) certification.
• SAP or equivalent experience CMMS system a plus
• Demonstrate the practice of safe handling of hand tools and hand power tools typically and commonly used in maintenance tasks
• Practice and demonstrate working knowledge of safe rigging and lifting procedures
• Understand the properties, behaviors, and hazards of the equipment
• Experience in maintenance, start-up, and commissioning of industrial rotating machinery and plant equipment
• Experience in a petrochemical, manufacturing or military environment
• Two-year Associate degree in Mechanical discipline or relevant military experience
• Entry level candidates with SkillsUSA membership and the ability to demonstrate PDP leadership competencies are strongly encouraged to apply
• Working knowledge of basic word processing, email, and spreadsheet programs a plus.
• Practical knowledge of machinery overhauls and refurbishment
• Good organizational skills, the ability to work alone if necessary, and the ability to lead a crew.
• Supervisory skills/experience a plus
• Demonstrated safe work skills, fundamental computer skills and the ability to work extended hours
• On call rotation and must be willing to work overtime
• Most be able to learn how to operate facility forklifts, manlift and shop overhead crane.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to work in an industrial environment which includes climbing ladders and steps in elevated work, get on scaffolding, get on manlift type equipment and wear PPE such as full body harness
• Must be able to wear supplied air and air purifying respiratory protection
• Able to work in confined spaces
• Able to lift 50 lbs
• Must be clean shaven
• Must be willing to work at a tobacco-free facility
