About the Job

Summary of Position:
This is a position in the Mashek laboratory (masheklab.umn.edu) that studies the relationship between lipid metabolism and disease development. A primary emphasis is on lipid droplet biology in the context of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, Type 2 Diabetes, and aging. We utilize variety of methods [diet and genetic animal models, cell culture/biology, various microscopy approaches, various omics tools and standard biochemical tools (Westerns, qPCR, cloning, enzyme assays, etc.] to answer our research questions. This position will involve working closely with the PI to manage the laboratory and lead or assist others with ongoing projects.

Essential and Other Functions:
70% Research
Design, conduct, analyze experiments and report findings to PI or research team. Lead projects or contribute to larger team projects.

20% Laboratory Management
Oversee general laboratory organization including ordering, equipment management, and assistance in protocol writing.

10% Train students and laboratory personnel
Mentor and teach undergraduate students and more junior people in the laboratory.

Qualifications

All Required Qualifications Must Be Documented On Application Materials

Required Qualifications:
Master's degree and 2 years of related experience or a BS in biochemistry, physiology, or related biological field and four years of experience.

Expertise in mouse genetics and husbandry and broad exposure/experience with basic biochemical and molecular laboratory techniques.

Experience with project oversight, training students, and laboratory or people management.

Excellent communication or organization skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to those who have an interest in studying metabolic basis of diseases or have conducted research in this area.
