About the Job

Description of Position

This position oversees the day-to-day logistics and managed inventory activity at U Market Services, including the distribution and tracking of packages, gas cylinders and other materials, staff scheduling, routing and supervision of approximately 12-17 bargaining unit employees, fleet management and handling customer service requests. This position also oversees various invoicing tasks and performs special project work related to Central Logistics. This position interviews, recommends for hire, and evaluates employees on a periodic basis. This position serves as a UMS representative to Facilities Management and other University departments, collaborating on strategic and operational initiatives by using Six Sigma methodology, and providing supply chain expertise to support the mission of the University of Minnesota.

Responsibilities


55% Logistics: This position is responsible for campus logistics operations including:
* Supervising the movement of vehicles and materials to and throughout campus.
* Maintaining efficient distribution routes and processes.
* Managing and maintaining a fleet of approximately 16 cars, vans and trucks.
* Effectively using on campus Secondary Distribution Hubs in alignment with routes.
* Coordination of services with other U Market Services management and external vendors.

30% Customer Support: This position will be responsible for:
* Providing exceptional customer service to external and internal vendors and have a commitment to university departments and their goals.
* Responding to specific requests for information on goods and services offered through U Market and U Market Services, and coordination of those services.
* Participating in essential meetings, conferences or other interactive activities with customer contacts.
* Troubleshooting customer complaints and providing resolutions in a timely manner.
* Creating and responding to customer requests via the U of M's ticketing system Team Dynamix.

10% Vendor Managed Inventory: This position is responsible for:
* Supervising vendor managed inventory deliveries and service tasks.
* Completing audits of on-campus inventory locations to verify stock and service levels.

5% Maintaining vehicle fleet, materials handling equipment and package tracking hardware

Essential Functions of the Position

Responds to service requests from customers, adjusting and coordinating the most efficient route structures of eight to ten delivery service routes. Provides first line customer service for customers requiring immediate delivery of materials or correspondence. Determines the best use of resources, weighing the needs of the customer against the cost of service. Utilizes both internal and external delivery resources to render the most efficient level of service. Provides high level of customer service to both internal and external customers. Functions in a variety of back-up capacities, as needed by the department.


Work Environment

Work areas vary. Much of the work is accomplished in warehouse and office settings. At times meeting, planning, reviewing and evaluating tasks requires campus travel to various customer locations.

Salary Range: $60,000-$70,000

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
BA/BS plus at least four years of experience with logistics or a combination of related education and experience, including logistics operations, to equal at least eight years. Documented supervisory experience involving multiple staff in a high volume, fast paced service environment. Experience with package tracking software and equipment. Experience working with bargaining unit employees and a proven ability to work collaboratively to meet strategic goals within the parameters of a bargaining unit contract. Must have a valid Minnesota driver's license.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the University of Minnesota campus and the surrounding metropolitan area. Knowledge of fleet management, package tracking software, processes and equipment. Knowledge of maintaining a safe, positive, and productive work environment for all customers and U Market Services staff.

Skills: Good communication skills are a requirement. Skilled at using effective communication strategy and experience with process improvement initiatives following the Six Sigma methodology.

Abilities: Ability to identify and map efficient delivery routes. Ability to work with various customers and distribution staff in a high paced environment. Ability to manage multiple tasks and carryout varied assignments as requested by management.
