Our continued growth and success have created an outstanding opportunity for a Controls System Engineer. This professional will be responsible for the development of controls engineering including rapid prototyping, model-based design, hardware/software integration, and supporting activities for existing and future electro-mechanical medical devices. Experience from aerospace, automotive, or other fields using model-based design should transfer well to this position.

You will be responsible for supporting the overall technical direction and work for novel Acute Therapies products. You will review and approve design concepts/changes and provide general direction to technical staff, including ensuring that quality is built into the design during new product development and/or sustaining activities.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Use modern model-based design tools and control theory to develop embedded closed-loop control systems for electro-mechanical devices including pumps, motors, mixing valves, and a variety of sensors such as pressure, temperature, weight, and conductivity
  • Develop logic diagrams and thresholds for alarm conditions
  • Write requirements, design descriptions, and verification tests
  • Perform evaluations and verification tests to prove designs and requirements
  • Develop and communicate schedules, risks, and dependencies
  • Coordinate development tasks with a team
  • Work with an existing team to setup and configure rapid-prototyping hardware, software, and interfaces to create prototype software/hardware in the loop development and simulation environments
  • Perform the activities associated with systems engineering of one or more products in different stages of the product lifecycle from new product development to post-market surveillance
  • Understand clinical and user needs and apply them to product realization
  • Use knowledge of technology, process, and/or therapy domains to drive solutions and product design realization from a systems perspective
  • Initiate, develop, and lead feasibility by crafting design concepts and research methodologies that best meet both current and future customer / business needs for a product or process domain area
  • Resolve systems-related technical issues by applying problem-solving tools such as cause and effect diagrams, Pareto charts, etc.
  • Propose and drive solutions to technical problems that are ambiguous and diverse in scope

What You Need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical, Controls, Systems, Software or other related technical/engineering field
  • 8+ years of industry work experience
  • Experience designing and developing modern control system in embedded devices
  • Experience in component controls or systems using MATLAB model-based design tools - primarily Simulink, and Stateflow
  • Development of physics-based simulations of plant models using Simulink and Stateflow
  • Knowledge of control theory including stability, root-locus, frequency response, state space, and analysis of digital control systems of non-linear systems
  • Must possess sound knowledge of systems engineering and related areas such as electro-mechanical and software engineering
  • Prior experience in electromechanical system development, preferably medical devices or other highly regulated products such as military hardware
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Success in working with multi-functional, global teams
  • Proficiency in written and oral communication
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills

At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $96,000.00 to $132,00.00 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors.
