To fulfill our vision of becoming a premier solutions business, Daikin needs a fully staffed, highly skilled corporate energy modeling department with a manager in charge of day to day operations as well long term project execution.
As the world's largest HVAC manufacturer, creating and growing a corporate energy modeling department requires strong technical skills, the ability to respond to industry wide changes in modeling trends, and a talent for coordinating and rolling out multi-faceted initiatives to support requests from marketing, engineering, applications, software, and industry compliance (ASHRAE, Title 24) all in a timely fashion with a high degree of accuracy.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Interface with product managers to address the timing and scope of equipment representation in energy modeling tools
  • Closely collaborate with field energy engineers; provide consultation and energy modeling expertise to field engineers who are managing complex projects. Field energy engineers to provide feedback that will inform energy modeling software development.
  • Develop the scope of work for software developers (in-house and third-party vendors) for developing, updating, and maintaining energy modeling software.
  • Partner with executive management in advancement of energy modeling software tools
  • Coordinate with Daikin Learning to develop and roll-out an energy modeling curriculum for training our sales force; including half-day training sessions; GET program modules, webinars, and software tool tips
  • Determine the energy modeling software roll-out schedule to non-Daikin entities: consulting engineers, National Labs, utility companies, and design build contractors. Also determine the subscription price (if any) involved sharing the software
  • Ensure that energy modeling software is updated in a timely manner giving priority to high demand equipment lines (e.g. Rebel and Rebel Applied)
  • Collaborate DOE national labs (PNNL) to stay current on energy modeling algorithms and modeling for compliance purposes
  • Collaborate with Daikin Comfort to ensure their equipment lines are properly represented in energy modeling software and funding is equitably distributed between companies
  • Collaborate with Daikin Industries as they develop energy modeling software complementary to DAA's software
  • Work with Daikin US on energy modeling issues central to Daikin's interest, including California legislation, studies regarding equipment efficiencies, etc.
  • Oversee the creation, testing, and implementation of equipment-specific energy modeling performance curves to be used in Daikin's DOE EnergyPlus software tools. Assume ultimate responsibility that performance curves deliver accurate results
  • Coordinate efforts with National Labs for tool development
  • Interface with major utility companies across the US to obtain their acceptance of Daikin's energy modeling software results. Establish good relationships with these companies and develop a scope for the required modeling output reports
  • Anticipate future growth and identify specialty areas to best serve Daikin's business objective of becoming a solutions provider
  • Increase Daikin Energy Services presence in trade magazine through publications and speaking engagements either directly or through the energy modeling engineers

Minimum Requirements:

  • 5+ years of advanced energy modeling for HVAC systems and LEED Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related; ASHRAE BEMP (Building Energy Modeling Professional); LEED certification (or Well Building); Professional Engineering License
  • Thorough knowledge of one or more total building energy simulation tools: EnergyPlus, eQuest, IES-VE, Trace 3D
    Experience with energy modeling for compliance purposes. Setting up an Appendix G base model, comparing a proposed scenario and quantifying the energy costs savings
  • Excellent customer facing skills (customers may be Daikin Reps and employees, consulting engineers, building owners, or governmental/compliance agencies)
  • Familiarity with LEED or Well Buildings certification
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Comfortable with public speaking
