About the Job

The successful candidate will be expected to operate independently and maintain
general operation of the lab (ordering supplies, maintaining records, etc.), design
experiments, conduct research, evaluate results, perform statistical analyses, publish
data in scientific journals and make oral presentations. This individual is also expected
to apply for extramural funding by means of post-doctoral fellowships and awards.

Major Responsibilities:
75% - Participate in the design and implementation of research plans with emphasis on
rigor; Develop and optimize methodology; Carryout experiments with relevant controls
and statistical power; Analyze data, potential pitfalls and plan and execute next steps in
collaboration with PI.
15% - Prioritize and seamlessly transition between research execution and the daily
tasks of electronic recordkeeping, data analysis with statistics and review of data and
literature to become a subject matter expert in Salmonella biology. Generate, revise and
polish figures and tables for the timely submission of manuscripts and other documents
for peer review.
10% - Collaborate to develop new technologies, new innovative approaches and utilize
instrumentation to achieve research objectives; Facilitate shared lab resources and
participate in group interactions to improve research efficiency and nurture rigor in the
lab culture. Serve coworkers as a role model for best practices in electronic
documentation of experiments, results collection, and methodology and data analysis.

Qualifications

Required:
Candidates must have an M.D., Ph.D., DVM or equivalent degree with a demonstrated
record of innovation and excellence in Salmonella microbiology and cell culture
techniques, with an interest in developing further expertise in the specific areas of focus
described above. Experience in bacterial genomics is desirable. Furthermore, a
background in poultry trials would be further assets. Additional background experience
working with Word, Excel, Power point and statistical software is preferred.
