Summary:

Mortenson is currently seeking a Buyer to join our Energy Storage Group responsible for working with project teams and suppliers to purchase materials, supplies, and equipment. Locations: Minneapolis, MN

Responsibilities:

  • Develop good working relationships with Project Teams, Quality, Engineering and Supply Chain Management.
  • Lead Procurement activities while coordinating with Project Teams, Quality and Supply Chain Management: solicit bids, analyze quotations, interview prospective suppliers, and select suppliers.
  • Purchase items and services at the most favorable price consistent with quality, quantity, specification, and schedule requirements, as well as other various factors
  • Create Purchase Agreements and lead communication with Suppliers on status and execution of Purchase Agreements
  • Create and maintain historical data for each operating group, by Project and Category.
  • Attend weekly Supply Chain Team calls to provide updates on all Project's Procurement status.
  • Lead weekly calls with key Suppliers and various Project Teams to track order status from time of placing order until delivery, as well as monitoring any Quality issues, and communicate status to project teams.
  • Lead weekly Project Procurement Status calls with Project Teams to provide status on all Procurement activities.
  • Analyze individual markets, manage budget and increase margin on a regular basis, track trends in purchasing habits.
  • Support Project Teams and Quality for returns of unacceptable products to suppliers.
  • Visit Project job sites or offices quarterly at a minimum to better understand their challenges and educate them on procurement so that streamlined processes can be implemented. Visits to key Suppliers facilities may also be required.
  • Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of construction processes and schedules, equipment and materials, purchasing processes and procedures.
  • Negotiating, organizing, planning, verbal and communication skills.
  • Experience with EPC procurement is strongly preferred.
  • Strong customer service and analytical skills.
  • Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, construction management or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
  • Minimum two years' experience in purchasing field.
  • Current driver's license.
  • Software experience.
