Finance Professional 2- Grant/Research 2 8222GR

About the Job:
This is a 75% time civil service position governed by the Civil Service Rules at the University of Minnesota. The pre-Award position is responsible for proposal submissions by faculty in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering to Sponsored Projects Administration. They will prepare and review proposal budgets and justifications, be responsible for reviewing all documents for adherence to RFP and university/SPA guidelines, prepare a Proposal Routing Form (PRF), and submit the grant to SPA according to their procedures. In this position, there is a responsibility to work with other parties, such as other departments, colleges, Universities, or companies to work together to submit proposals within the deadline set by the funding agency and the University.

Job Duties:
Preaward Accounting Support and Analysis (80%):

  • Responsible for preaward management of grants, research projects, and/or contracts.
  • Ensures compliance with sponsor terms, University policies/procedures, and federal regulations.
  • Advise the principal investigator on ways to achieve an effective, quality proposal and coordinate a timely submission process, ensuring appropriate approvals.
  • Help faculty with updating supporting proposal documents to ensure they follow the appropriate guidelines and requirements of the funding agency
  • Work with the Accountant on creating budgets to ensure appropriate account codes are used and policies are followed.
  • Responsible for proposal submissions by faculty in the department. This includes preparing and reviewing the budget and justification, reviewing proposals for adherence to RFP and university/SPA guidelines, preparing the Proposal Routing Form (PRF), and submitting grants to SPA according to their procedures and deadlines.
  • Work with SPA (Sponsored Projects Administration) to ensure sponsor proposal requirements are met

Student Group Management (10%):

  • Oversee the accounting/chart strings for the CEGE student groups (EWB, ITSO, Chi Epsilon and ASCE)
  • Work with the Dean's Office and UMN Foundation on depositing checks that the student groups receive from donors
  • Ensure that each student group adheres to all of the University of Minnesota policies and procedures
  • Attend student group meetings to answer any financial questions

Departmental P-Card Reconciliation (5%):

  • Manage the departmental purchasing card by reconciling the transactions in "My Wallet"
  • Educate employees to make sure they understand all of the policies and procedures that go with using a University purchasing card (i.e. tax exemption)
  • Upload receipts, chart strings, and justifications into "My Wallet" in EFS

Other Duties as assigned (5%)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in accounting or related field and 2 years of relevant work experience OR a combination of education and experience to equal 6 years.
    Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft word and excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with University systems such as PeopleSoft, EFS, UM Reports, and EGMS.
  • Has experience with online proposal portal systems for government/ state agencies (Research.Gov, Grants.Gov, LCCMR, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and resolve complex problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and direct multiple projects and interrelated financial activities with major operational or funding impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to make recommendations to faculty and unit leaders regarding budgets and sponsored project proposals.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with University and sponsor accounting (Federal and non-Federal) regulations.
