This is an onsite Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Data Center Manager position in Roseville, MN.

SUMMARY:

Responsible for providing leadership, technical expertise, work direction, and technical guidance to IT technical personnel and local site System Administrators for IT infrastructure.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Supervises assigned staff, including hiring, training, evaluating performance, providing compensation recommendations, and performance management.

2. Manages Data Center Team projects and staff.

3. Provides direction, training and work review to a team; organizes and assigns work, sets priorities and follows-up and controls project status to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work.

4. Research, evaluate, and propose new technologies and their value to Pace in the areas of PCs, servers, virtualization, storage, back-up, data archival, and network support and security.

5. Develops and implements policies, procedures, and standards for hardware and software use, data storage, data archival, data retention, virtualization, and network support and security; establishes and maintains standards for installing, supporting, and maintaining infrastructure technology.

6. Collaborates with IT personnel and local site System Administrators to provide software and hardware recommendations to support projected growth; assesses and identifies needs for server hardware, data storage, network hardware, software and support, and network security; provides budgetary numbers to the respective General Manager and Director of IT in preparation for the budgeting process.

7. Investigate needs and propose server, storage, and network hardware maintenance contracts.

8. Consult with General Managers and department managers to identify the need for technology enablement consistent with organizational objectives.

9. Ensures solutions integrate with our back-office applications.

10. Collaborates with General Managers, Corporate IT, and the Director of IT to select and implement Data Center solutions within each of our labs to support best practices; manages the implementation of these solutions in each lab.

11. Maintains currency on the status of selected projects to implement; ensures communication to all local site System Administrators and Data Center Team on progress, needs, and issues.

12. Develop and implement disaster recovery procedures

13. Collaborates with the Director of IT in determining the need for, writing, and auditing technology policies.

14. Identifies, evaluates, negotiates, and manages vendors to provide technical solutions and services to meet our processing and technology needs.

15. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active work team member.

16. Promotes and supports Pace Analytical's overall mission by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with customers and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.


QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

1. Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field; AND ten (10) years of professional Data Center, IT infrastructure, and network planning, implementation, and support experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

2. Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.


Required Knowledge and Skills

1. Required Knowledge:

  • Principles and practices of employee training, work planning, and review.
  • Oracle Databases (Enterprise, SE, SE1) and Microsoft SQL as they relate to hardware configuration and selection, data storage, and archival.
  • Knowledge of applications as they relate to the support and use of IT infrastructure.
  • Principles and practices of project management.
  • Management information systems practices and terminology.
  • Forms and documentation design techniques.
  • Record keeping principles and practices.
  • Documentation and user instruction methods and techniques.
  • Correct business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Required Skills:
  • Planning, directing, and reviewing the work of others on a project or day-to-day basis.
  • Instructing others in work procedures.
  • Managing assigned projects.
  • Analyzing and documenting business processes, user requirements, and outputs such as test results.
  • Analyzing system requirements and selecting appropriate hardware and software solutions for system design.
  • Translating customer department needs into operational programs.
  • Analyze systems and issues and develop specifications for new or modified programs to meet customer department needs.
  • Preparing clear and concise documentation, user instructions, reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
  • Working without close supervision in standard work situations.
  • Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
  • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of individuals contacted in the course of the work.
