USP Compliance Specialist has responsibility for assuring compliance to USP standards under the direction of the Assistant Director, Compounding amp; USP Standard Compliance (Assistant Director for USP Compliance). This position will assist the Assistant Director of USP Compliance to ensure the quality assurance program for sterile and non-sterile preparations is maintained. The position provides USP standardsrsquo; trainings to employees as well as responsible for oversight of monitoring the pharmacy personnelrsquo;s compliance of standards in the compounding areas. The position performs monthly surface samplings and random viable air samplings as needed to comply with USP797. He/she monitors and performs annual and biannual IV certifications to IV compounding personnel according to the scope of practice according to USP797 requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Provides training to new hires and ongoing training to personnel preparing non-sterile and sterile compounding
  • Assists in oversight of the department USP Quality Assurance amp; Control programs
  • Performs IV certifications to staffs
  • Performs monthly surface samplings and random viable air samplings as needed
  • Surveys day to day non-sterile and sterile preparations to ensure compliance with USP chapters amp; department standard operating procedures
  • Participates in the medication distribution system within TJUH.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required, graduate of an accredited pharmacy technician training program preferred.

Minimum of 3 yearsrsquo; experience performing Sterile Compounding required. Computer and mathematical abilities; good communication skills. Database and hardware experience.

Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements:

Pharmacy technician certification required

Preferred: Sterile, Non-Sterile amp; Hazardous Compounding Certifications (ie, CSPT)

Preferred: Completion of annual CE on Viable Air amp; Surface Sampling
