Sr Systems Engineer Role

Reporting to the Manager, Technical Services, the Sr Systems Engineer designs, builds, administers, and maintains the components that make up SunStream's computer systems. This role ensures the System is working properly and securely by monitoring workstations, servers, connectivity devices and software that run them.

Job Functions

System Design

  • Consults with users, evaluates requirements, recommends designs, provides cost analyses
  • Plans and leads large scale and/or multi-year projects, and coordinates tasks for installation of data systems
  • Performs the installation, layout, and maintenance of assigned application and system components

System Administration and Maintenance

  • Recommends policies and procedures to ensure System components are functioning properly
  • Performs day-to-day maintenance as necessary or scheduled, often during non-business hours
  • Ensures proper system backup
  • Maintains and supports third-party applications running on SunStream infrastructure
  • Deploys software updates
  • Analyzes and resolves technical problems for established Systems; works with vendors to resolve complex problems

System Implementation

  • Plans, tests, and implements server infrastructure and software to maintain system integrity and effectiveness
  • Installs, upgrades, and configures System printing, directory structures, user access, security, software, and file services
  • Establishes user profiles, user environments, directories, and security for Systems being installed
  • Provides System documentation to System users and programmers

Helpline Support

  • Provides System support for complex, elevated user problems (tier 2) as needed
  • May assist Helpline personnel in resolving tier 1 System issues, as requested
  • Provides technical support to end-users (e.g., associations and their customers) for assigned infrastructure components
  • Provides support in a rotating on-call 24/7 environment

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree in computer science or related field
  • 5 + years of related experience
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE or MCSA or both)
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Working knowledge of VMWare VSphere software
  • Working knowledge of Azure/M365/DevOps
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Systems and Technologies
  • Working knowledge of Azure and associated resources
  • Working knowledge of software roles, services and applications
  • Skill in installing, administering and configuring technological platforms and systems
  • Skill in working with switches and routers
  • Skill in listening and conveying awareness of a customer's problem or issue to find resolution
  • Skill in analyzing information to formulate logical and objective conclusions
  • Oral and written communication skills, sufficient to exchange information effectively with peers, supervisor and customers
  • Skill in planning and coordinating projects
  • Responsible to appropriately protect the confidentiality, security, and integrity of SunStream and client systems and data
