About the Job

The Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences within the University of Minnesota College of
Veterinary Medicine is seeking an outstanding educator for our interdisciplinary and innovative teaching
team. This is a full-time, 12-month, faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, with
annual renewal contingent upon performance. The Department faculty educates professional veterinary
medicine, undergraduate, and graduate students.

Key Responsibilities:


Instruction (75-80%)
We are seeking a Veterinary Anatomist to join our dynamic education team at the University of Minnesota
College of Veterinary Medicine. The primary focus of this role will encompass teaching (75-80%) and course
coordinating in the year-long DVM comparative anatomy courses with an emphasis on large animal anatomy,
including embryology and radiographic anatomy. The successful candidate will participate fully in the
instruction of comparative anatomy to veterinary students and assume responsibilities of laboratory
instruction and associated assessments of student learning. The candidate will also provide leadership and
vision for the DVM anatomy curriculum. Other teaching opportunities may include Microscopic Anatomy,
Integrated Physiology, and courses in which anatomy or other relevant expertise is required, including
undergraduate or graduate courses. Please see the DVM course catalog for more information.
Outreach, Professional Service, & Governance (5%)
The candidate is expected to participate in departmental, collegiate or University committees, seek and/or
maintain membership and service in regional and/or nationally-recognized professional organizations, and
effectively communicate with University stakeholders and the public.

Scholarly Activity or Clinical Service (15-20%)
The candidate is encouraged to participate in collaborative research within biomedical or veterinary sciences,
clinical service within our veterinary medical center, and/or the scholarship of teaching and learning and
contribute to the generation of new knowledge in their field.
Specific effort allocation percentages to be determined at goal-setting meetings each year. Responsibilities
may change as the needs of the College, Department, and section change as well as the interests and expertise
of the successful candidate. Academic performance will be reviewed annually utilizing criteria established for
contract track faculty members within the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
DVM or DVM-equivalent at the time of hire
Demonstrated teaching experience
Large animal anatomical and clinical expertise
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with diverse colleagues, students, and stakeholders

Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated college or university-level teaching experience
Experience in contemporary veterinary and/or medical education, including the development of online
educational curricula
A record of publication in the scholarship of teaching and learning and/or research
Experience with the clinical application of educational content related to veterinary medicine
Knowledge and ability to teach across a wide number of disciplines, e.g. large and small animal
anatomy, physiology, immunology and infectious diseases. Other related experience, including small
and large animal surgical experience and comparative anatomy, will also be considered.
Experience and interest in performing veterinary clinical service or research
