Post Doctorial Associate, Sexual Health Research at the University of Minnesota Program

The Division of Epidemiology and Community Health in the School of Public Health, University of Minnesota, is seeking a Post Doctorial Associate to join a five-year NIH-funded research grant to compare experiences in cancer care between LGBTQ individuals and the impact poor cancer care and discrimination has on research participation.

The Post Doctorial Associate will be expected to be a core member of the research team and work directly under the supervision of Drs. Simon Rosser and Ms. Gunna Kilian. This is a 100% FTE (P&A) position over a 2-year period; travel stipend to attend a national conference each year will also be made available.

Job Responsibilities:
The Post-Doctoral Associate will be mentored by Prof. Simon Rosser and will work with him and his collaborators within and outside of the University of Minnesota. The job responsibilities include writing first-author manuscripts, theory development, and data analysis. The position will prepare the Post-Doctoral Associate for an early-stage faculty career in academia, and the mentoring will emphasize these aspects (e.g., attendance of conferences and, if desired, working with graduate students on methods papers, etc).

Starting pay:
This is dependent upon the selected candidate's relevant qualifications, experience, and internal equity: NIH standard postdoctoral salary ($60,000-$65,000 USD annually.)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in a field relevant to cancer and LGBTQ health
  • Experience with and sensitivity to the target population (LGBTQ)
  • Experience conducting qualitative interviews
  • Experience in writing papers for publication in scientific journals
  • Experience in both qualitative and quantitative data collection methodology
  • Strong interest in teaching courses related to LGBTQ health
  • Ability to advance science independently and also as part of collaborative team;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, good organizational skills
  • Interest in fostering an inclusive environment and appreciation of differences in the workplace

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to someone who has a demonstrated research experience involving cancer and LGBTQ populations. Given the large recruitment component of this study; the ideal candidate would be someone who has conducted participant recruitment and has familiarity when it comes to recruiting from online sites.

The Division of Epidemiology & Community Health focuses on disease and health in various populations. Our faculty and students examine the distribution, cause and prevention of diseases, and how human behavior affects overall health.

The division offers MPH, MS and PhD degrees, as well as dual and joint degrees.

The work of epidemiologists spreads across sectors and areas of study, so our division and faculty are often partnering with other research entities and community organizations on public health research and interventions.
