What you will do:

Advance the work and social skills of people with intellectual disabilities and who are deaf or hard of hearing. Direct Support Professionals work directly with people with disabilities in a center-based setting, assisting them with personal care and projects as needed. Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required to be successful in this role. You will:

  • Communication - communicate effectively; listen to others; write effectively; establish relationships; act with integrity; establish trust. In this role, you will use American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate with persons served
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with site contacts and maintain business partner's expectations for productivity, quality, etc.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable legal requirements and accreditations standards. Ensures that all department activities are conducted in a manner that is consistent with Rise's Code of Conduct, CARF standards, and HIPAA policies and procedures
  • Provide direct support for people with disabilities
  • Assist with life enrichment activities to advance the work and social skills of persons served
  • Model appropriate behavior and interactions
  • Assist with lifting and transferring adults to/from wheelchairs and assist with personal care
  • Continually inspire personal growth in the people you support by establishing and achieving personal goals and implementing person-centered practices
  • Input information into data management system
  • Design innovative community integration activities (volunteering, outdoor, social) and support persons served on these community outings
  • Provide daily transportation of persons supported in Rise vans and buses
Requirements

What you will need:

  • Technology skills: Comfortable working with computers, Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Teams, etc.). and database management systems - Learn software systems to complete routine tasks.
  • Current, valid driver's license and an MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) driving record that demonstrates safe, legal driving habits required
  • Ability to pass DHS (Department of Human Services) Rule 11 background check
  • Fluency of American Sign Language (ASL), required
  • High school diploma or GED

Preferred Education, Experience, and other Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with people with behavioral challenges and implementing positive approaches to behavior management in a Human Services
  • Experience practicing person-centered techniques with people with disabilities
  • Detail-oriented, results-driven, efficient, and communicative.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately.
  • Previous experience working with people who are deaf and/or people who use alternative communication methods
  • Willing to transport individuals using Rise's services for daily route needs or community outing opportunities
