The Camp Coordinator works with summer camp and ROC staff to create a safe, engaging, age-appropriate, and positive learning environment for campers. This position is responsible for supporting communication with campers and guardians, maintaining attendance and daily camp rosters, and assisting with camp during the Bell Museum's statewide summer camps. This position will occasionally assist the Lead Educator & Coordinator with facilitating educational experiences centered on environmental science, natural history, and agriculture for children entering 2nd - 6th grade. Bell Museum statewide camps is a collaborative effort between the Bell Museum and select University of Minnesota Research and Outreach Centers.

This position is based in Grand Rapids, MN. In addition to camp hours at our primary location at NCROC in Grand Rapids there will be required travel to Crookston, MN and Lamberton, MN for 1 - 3 days of additional camp programming. There are also optional opportunities to work additional hours as an agricultural research assistant on the NCROC campus.

Duties and Responsibilities
Camp Management (50%)
* Communicate with parents, bussing, caterers, and camp partners
* Maintain camper and guardian documentation
* Learn, help to create, and enforce first aid and safety protocols.
* Fill in for Lead Educator roles as needed, including but not limited to:
Implement engaging camp activities for up to 25 children per class using a provided curriculum that includes scientific experiments and interactive activities involving earth science, agriculture, biology, chemistry, engineering, physics, art, games, and more. This includes indoor and outdoor activities.
Provide direction to Education Associates
* Assist and work collaboratively with camp and ROC staff in creating a safe, fun and enriching camp environment. Manage campers, group dynamics, and behaviors.
* Assist with setup and clean up of camp activities.
* Camp staff are required to follow all safety related guidelines, policies, and procedures at all times and ensure that campers are safe at all times.
* Interact with campers, guardians, other staff, and the general public in a safe, respectful, and professional manner.

Administrative Tasks (30%)
* Participate in regular check-ins with camp staff.
* Conduct regular reflections/evaluations of the program and experiences with staff, partner organizations, and parents
* Travel to the Bell Museum in Saint Paul for training (paid travel and training hours, plus mileage, accommodations, and per diem covered by the Bell Museum)

Agricultural Research Assistant (optional) & Other duties as assigned (20%)
* Complete agricultural research assistant duties assigned by NCROC staff
* Complete other additional tasks as assigned

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications
* Experience using Gmail and spreadsheets (Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel)
* Must be dedicated, dependable, and flexible
* Desire to work in a fast paced environment with youth
* Experience working in a team environment and independently.
* Experience working with persons from diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
* Must be 18 years of age or older.

Desired Qualifications
* A minimum of two years experience leading children in a formal or informal educational setting.
* Experience managing staff and/or volunteers.
* Experience in working with youth with cognitive, physical or other disabilities or diagnoses.
* Training or experience as a camp leader or educator.
* Experience or relevant coursework in youth education, physical or natural science, or agriculture.
* Demonstrated understanding of basic science concepts, including agricultural, and natural
sciences.
* CPR and First Aid training and/or certification.

Hours, Pay, Other
Position start date: May 28, 2024
Position end date: August 16th, 2024
Can work up to 5 days per week as a temp/casual employee not to exceed 67 total days. Excludes University holidays.
* Required camp training May 28th - 30th & June 3 - 7 in Grand Rapids with one training day in St Paul (travel will be compensated)
Pay rate: $21.00//hr
* Other: Successfully passing a background check is a requirement for this position.
