Overview

This is a hybrid schedule role. Qualified candidates must reside in the Roseville MN area.

The SysOps Engineer I supports multi-site manufacturing operations and associated systems requiring collaboration across varying technical and business operations teams. This role will ensure the smooth and reliable operations of manufacturing processes through effective automation and continuous improvement. Additionally, the role supports the organization's Development Operations (DevOps) strategy to ensure quality software deployments and maximize the overall health, availability, security, reliability and performance of critical business systems.

The SysOps Engineer I leverages solid knowledge across a range of technologies including operating systems, integration systems, deployment systems, and cloud infrastructure. This resource is comfortable working in automation frameworks to deploy software while also maintaining, troubleshooting and resolving systems issues and improving system performance.

The role typically works on both routine and more complex issues, often requiring design and development of solutions that rely on past experience, thorough understanding of the environment and ability to effectively utilize a wide range of technology tools/techniques.

Responsibilities
    Partner with support and operations teams, developers and testers to receive and respond to requests for enhancements and improvements to systems and infrastructure.
  • Complex configuration and troubleshooting of server operating systems (Linux, Windows, etc.)
  • Independently manage assigned projects and to deliver services and deployments to meet stakeholder requirements
  • Troubleshoot both routine and complex/unique malfunctions of hardware, network communications, and software applications to resolve operational issues and restore services
  • Troubleshoot routine and complex/unique production equipment problems on the manufacturing floors, with specific focus on machine setup and data flow
  • Advanced troubleshooting of IP routing, VPN access methods and DNS
  • Work with customers on FTP/SFTP setup and other technical onboarding tasks
  • Establish schedules and conduct installation, modification and maintenance of system and utility software on server platforms
  • Respond to inquiries from colleagues and service providers to provide technical assistance and support of system, machine and application related functions and availability
  • Manage and make improvements to processes for automated deployments, monitoring, management, and incident response for a 24x7 high-security environment
  • Participates in after hours' support when required, including an on-call rotation
  • Integrates new services, drives operating and technical improvements in application and infrastructure platforms
  • Independently and rapidly learn new frameworks, languages, tools, and APIs that become necessary to incorporate best practices into the work and support current systems
  • Work with development and support teams to design improved deployment, provisioning and integration workflows; ensure environments are in good working order; and identify areas and plans for improvement
  • Provide support and maintenance for manufacturing related systems, including legacy systems that may require special attention.
  • Design and implement multi-server VMWare environments including IP address schemes, DNS, virtual networking
  • Implement monitoring and alerting solutions for applications and systems to detect and respond to issues promptly mitigating and/or preventing impact to the operations.
  • Collaborate with security teams to implement and enforce security best practices for manufacturing systems and ensure compliance with industry and regulatory standards (i.e., PCI, SOX, etc).
Qualifications
Competencies:
  • Solid working knowledge of most of the following:
    • Development and scripting utilizing a variety of common tools and languages
    • Windows Server support/migration/administration
    • FTP/SFTP utilizing various platforms
    • Configuration management and automation/deployment solutions tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Terraform, SaltStack, Octopus, Cfengine, Jenkins, Git, Docker, Nagios, etc.
    • SQL (MSSQL)
    • Web API, Restful Services, and WCF Services
    • Central authentication platforms, such as Active Directory, LDAP, Kerberos/IDM
    • Virtualization tools such as ESX/Xen/KVM, etc.
    • General Networking: Switches, Routers, Hubs, Servers, Cables, Racks, Firewalls, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, UDP, Latency, VoIP, troubleshooting

  • Excellent communication skills, ability to convey and document system related dependencies using Visio diagrams
  • Experience working in a highly-regulated or highly secure business, a plus
  • Experience working in a Linux environment, a plus

Experience working with Intrusion detection/prevention, encryption and data loss protection tools and processes, a plus

Education/Training/Experience:
  • B.S. or MS Degree in Information Technology or equivalent work experience
  • At least 4 years demonstrated experience in relevant IT field such as DevOps, server administration, or development
