EARLY CHILDHOOD FAMILY EDUCATION (ECFE) PARAPROFESSIONAL - TEMPORARY
LONG TERM SUBSTITUTE
DISTRICT PROGRAM CENTER

- Position follows school calendar with the option to work in other summer paraprofessional positions if interested.

Compensation:

Effective January 1, 2024 the base rate of pay is $21.13 per hour. This position is eligible for an additional $.50 per hour once Highly Qualified status is achieved (2 or 4 year degree, OR 60 semester credits OR successful completion of the Para Pro which is offered by the district once a month). External candidates DO NOT need to meet this criteria until after they are hired. INTERNAL CANDIDATES MUST MEET THIS CRITERIA AT THE TIME THEIR APPLICATION IS SUBMITTED.

Hours per day or per week: 26.25 hours per week

Position start and end time:
Monday 8:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Tuesday 9:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Tuesday evening 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday 9:00 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.
Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Friday 8:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for assisting one or more teachers in the teaching-learning process, classroom management, and maintaining a stimulating, healthy and safe classroom or sibling care environment.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS

Classroom
  1. Set up classroom for parent/child activities according to a lesson plan prior to arrival of families.
  2. Greet the families upon arrival and assists in their departure.
  3. Model activities for and assist families with activities. Replace supplies as needed.
  4. Assist with the implementation of planned activities and provide supervision and care during child-only time.
  5. Support licensed teacher in utilizing a variety of behavioral management techniques as needed.
  6. Interact with the children when the teacher is reporting to parents, when applicable.
  7. Respond to needs of children (separation, snacks, bathroom assistance, diaper changes, feeding, etc).
  8. Clean up after activities and at the conclusion of the class.
  9. Assist teachers with preparation of materials for classes.
  10. Refer parents' questions to the teacher.
  11. Notify the classroom teacher about equipment that needs repair or replacement, or supplies that need purchasing.
  12. Assist with shopping for needed program supplies.
  13. Understand and maintain boundaries and confidentiality with students, families, and staff.
  14. Participate in staff development activities, and site and staff meetings, as required.
  15. Maintain a high level of fairness, confidentiality, respect and equity for all students, staff and families.
  16. May assist in the duties of position within the same classification on an as needed basis. Duties could include, but are not limited to lifting and toileting.
  17. Perform other tasks deemed necessary by the program coordinator or classroom teacher.
Sibling Care
  1. Set up activities appropriate for the age of the children prior to arrival.
  2. Interact with the children in play and care for each child's needs (separation, diapering, bathroom assistance).
  3. Feed infants and provide snack to older children.
  4. Attend to special needs of each child as directed by program coordinator and parent (i.e., food allergies, allergies, feeding schedule, ways to comfort, appropriate interventions).
  5. Notify the program coordinator about equipment that needs repair or replacement, or supplies that need purchasing.
  6. Clean up the room at the conclusion of sibling care.
  7. Prepare materials for sibling care (log book, name tags, snack, attendance).
  8. Maintain open communication with parents regarding child's needs and experience in sibling care.
  9. Understand and maintain boundaries and confidentiality with students, families, and staff.
  10. Participate in staff development activities, and site and staff meetings, as required.
  11. Maintain a high level of fairness, confidentiality, respect and equity for all students, staff and families.
  12. May assist in the duties of position within the same classification on an as needed basis. Duties could include, but are not limited to lifting and toileting.
  13. Perform other tasks deemed necessary by the program coordinator or classroom teacher.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):

Required:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Ability to meet District 833's Highly Qualified requirements.
  3. Competencies as required by State of Minnesota, Federal government, and/or District 833.
  4. Ability to perform routine computer functions, including the use of email, Internet navigation and Microsoft Word.
  5. Ability to pass Paraprofessional fitness for duty tests.
  6. Ability to lift and transfer up to 50 pounds.
  7. Prompt, regular and reliable attendance.
  8. Proven teamwork, confidentiality, and communication skills.
  9. Models appropriate behavior, neat appearance, and proper grammar usage for all students. Helps provide a positive learning environment.
  10. Actively participates in district-sponsored training when offered.
  11. Communicates with students, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships.
  12. Demonstrates an appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions.
Desired:
  1. Trained in and experience utilizing behavioral management techniques.
  2. Certification in first aid and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
  3. Demonstrates knowledge of basic academics and behavior.
  4. Prior experience working with children birth to age 5
  5. Coursework or training in child development.
