Job Description:
Summary:
The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams providing structural engineering and related technical expertise. Assignments may include design and analysis, preparing plans and specifications, report writing, cost estimating, and construction observation. The work will primarily involve hydropower facilities, wind turbine foundations, and industrial processing facilities such as power plants, mining facilities, and other heavy industrial facilities. The work may require short-term, out-of-town work assignments. All applicants should include transcripts with their application.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a structural emphasis (including structural analysis and steel and concrete design)
Familiarity with AutoCAD, word processing, and spreadsheet software
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients
Strong technical and problem-solving skills
Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
A flexible working style and a willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
Superior task management skills including scheduling, prioritizing, and following up
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in civil engineering with a structural emphasis.
Experience with structural engineering analysis software such as STAAD Pro, RISA 3D, or MathCAD
Experience with 3D software such as Revit
Field or construction observation experience
Strong technical skills in a wide range of structural analysis and design
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certified or ability to obtain within one year
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, office.
NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
