Job Description

* At Securian Financial the internal title for this position is Actuarial Sr. Analyst, Actuarial Consultant, based on qualifications, experience, and exams.

Position Summary:

This position is part of the Risk Team within Individual Solutions (IS). The Risk Team provides monitoring, analysis, and management of risks within Individual Life and Annuity including our asset strategies, hedge programs and tolerance thresholds. Our Risk Team is comprised of engaging, curious, and collaborative teammates that seek to deliver high quality actuarial work and value to the organization while having fun and building meaningful relationships in the process. As an Actuarial Consultant, you will play a key role in supporting and advancing our hedging program and strategies and developing proactive risk management analysis that supports Individual Solutions' strategies and enterprise priorities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop or enhance actuarial analysis and risk reporting in support of Individual Solutions' risk management, including mortality, longevity, morbidity, and policyholder behavior risks.
  • Perform quantitative analysis to assess risk exposures, recommend solutions, and analyze impacts of potential risk management strategies, including reinsurance programs, or sales practice.
  • Monitor emerging risks and develop recommendations to IS senior leadership on risk management decisions.
  • Provide monitoring and management of the annuity hedge programs including maintaining the annuity hedge models, helping oversee the nightly hedge process, and performing sensitivity analysis to support valuation and capital analysis.
  • Manage the life hedging strategy and effectiveness of our IUL hedging program in partnership with ERM and Individual Solutions actuaries.
  • Provide subject matter expertise into support of the IS Focused Excellence strategy, including participation on strategy workstreams, in partnership with IS Product Development.
  • Maintain strong relationships, deliver innovation and thoughtful debate, and communicate effectively with key partners across Individual Solutions (Product, Risk, and Finance), Securian Asset Management (SAM), and Finance, Risk & Actuarial (FRA).

Qualifications

  • ASA or actively in actuarial exam progress
  • Strong creative, analytical, and problem-solving skills to analyze information and form recommendations.
  • Effective prioritization skills, including the ability to balance accuracy, resources, and timelines within the bigger picture.
  • Proven ability to develop, maintain, and leverage relationships with Individual Solutions and Shared Service teams.
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written, to explain processes and results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Adaptable and flexible; ability to work on multiple actuarial activities and practice areas
  • Knowledge of Individual Life and Annuity products, markets and modeling tools.

  • Ability to utilize keyboard, mouse, and computer for up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week
