About the Job

A postdoctoral training position is available in the laboratory of Dr. John Hulleman (@HullemanLab) in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Neurosciences at the University of Minnesota. The Hulleman Laboratory is dedicated to developing treatments for debilitating eye diseases by leveraging newly-gained perspectives in biochemistry, chemical biology, and drug discovery. We have an opening for a postdoctoral associate (funded through a recent Thome Foundation grant) that focuses on testing and applying newly identified therapeutics to rare retinal dystrophies and models of age-related macular degeneration.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Mouse handling, genotyping, animal husbandry
  • Immortalized, primary, and iPSC cell culture
  • Molecular biology techniques including PCR, qPCR
  • Protein biochemistry techniques including western blotting, protein isolation and biophysical characterization
  • Immunofluorescence of mouse eye tissue and cultured cell lines
  • Transmission electron microscopy
  • Manuscript writing, participation in fellowships and presenting work at national and international meetings
Qualifications

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree, be self-driven, creative, have a productive publication track record (in respected journals), and have extensive experience with cell culture (immortalized, iPSC, and primary) and rodent work. Candidates also should have experience with tissue and organ dissection in mice (not necessarily the eye). Ideal candidates must be detail oriented and have the ability to learn and implement new techniques/concepts leading to publications.
