JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Department of Psychiatry Chair and the Adult Psychiatry Division Chief, the Adult Psychologist will provide psychiatric assessment, management, and psychotherapy to patients with co-morbid medical disease and behavioral problems. Specifically, the incumbent will provide initial psychiatric consultations and crisis management for adults in outpatient, inpatient and emergency settings within the Cook County Health & Hospitals System (CCHHS).

Typical Duties

  • Provides psychological consultation/liaison services to adolescents and adults as consultant to all CCHHS inpatient medical, trauma and emergency services; including assessments of dangerousness, competence for medical-decision making, and recommendation for psychiatric medication.
  • Provides clinical supervision and teaching to trainees in psychology.
  • Provides clinical training and teaching to the staff and trainees (MD Residents and Fellows) in the Departments of Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Family Practice.
  • Provides psychiatric assessment as part of Adult Psychiatry Clinics.
  • Conducts, facilitates and directs psychotherapeutic services, including individual, couples and group therapy.
  • Assists with space allocation, scheduling, patient flow and management as requested by Adult Division Chief and Lead Administrator of the Department.
  • Documents all encounters with patients in medical record and communicates diagnoses and treatment recommendations to appropriate medical staff.
  • Reports any suspected abuse or neglect (in accordance with Illinois State law and CCHHS Abuse and Neglect policies).
  • Maintains active licensure with the State of Illinois and active credentials with CCHHS.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in assigned committees.
  • Participates in necessary peer review and quality assurance activities.
  • Engages in Ongoing Provider Performance Evaluation within the Department.

Minimum Requirements

  • Active professional license as a doctorate-level psychologist in the State of Illinois.
  • Completion of PhD or PsyD in Psychology from APA-accredited program.
  • Completion of psychology internship from APA-accredited program. Specific training in psychotherapeutic techniques.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience providing psychological services in medical setting(s).
  • Experience with gender, age, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, SES, substance abuse and medical issues of the treatment population served.
  • Experience providing emergency and inpatient psychiatric consultations to medically ill patients.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CADC or MISA-certified
  • Bilingual

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

  • Specific knowledge and/or experience with gender, age, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, SES, substance abuse and medical issues of the treatment population served.
  • Knowledge of all applicable departmental, Cook County, state, and federal regulations regarding patient care.
  • Skills in teaching and supervising psychology trainees in psychiatric assessment, psychotherapeutic methods, and psychological testing.
  • Excellent human relations and oral/written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage large volume of patients and referrals.
  • Ability to assess information, apply critical thinking to determine course of action, and relay this information to patients, families, and clinical staff.
  • Ability to provide clear and concise documentation regarding patients and to maintain this information in a confidential manner.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with all staff, trainees, and patients at all times.
  • Ability to physically perform in terms of physical movements, vision, hearing, and speech
  • Ability to work independently, be able to prioritize, and manage time.
  • Willingness to provide psychiatric consultation and care to all Cook County Health and Hospitals System sites, including Stroger Hospital, Oak Forest Hospital, and Provident Hospital campuses.

Original credentialing documents must be presented at time of interview.

Must successfully meet the credentialing standards established by the Cook County Health and Hospitals System to include a State of Illinois PSY license and any other license, certification, or specialized training, etc. no later than two (2) weeks prior to the candidate's start date
