About the Job

We are seeking a highly motivated bioinformatician to join the Institute on the Biology of Aging and Metabolism (iBAM) and the Department of Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development at the University of Minnesota. Aging is a natural process throughout an entire life course. Focusing on health and well-being, in iBAM we study the multiple facets of this process from many angles. This allows us to share insights in understanding how the 12 hallmarks of aging affect us and how to manipulate the pathways involved to allow for more healthy aging.

Being a successful candidate, you will have multiple responsibilities. First, you will lead a new research project that is funded within the scope of our research area of interesting, perform data processing and analysis with a focus on single-cell transcriptomics, and write manuscripts. You will participate in multiple collaborative NIH Research or Program Projects in collaboration with wet-lab researchers in the field of aging research with different research expertise, e.g., genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, and development. You will also participate in NIH grant applications typically in collaborations with faculty members in the iBAM. You will contribute to write grant annual reports and present the progress of the project orally in intramural, national, and international meetings and conferences. Finally, you will provide on-hand guidance to junior bioinformaticians at the graduate researcher or postdoc level on their research projects. Your appointment will be institutionally supported for any effort not assigned to active grants and are not required to pursue a fully independent research program.



Essential and Other Functions:
35% Lead a research project, including data collection, data processing, data analysis, manuscript writing, and other related oral and written reports.
35% Participate in multiple collaborative research projects, including providing expertise in data processing and analysis, training junior bioinformaticians, writing relevant part of manuscripts, and other oral and written reports.
20% Contribute to write grant applications and annual reports that led by faculty members in the iBAM Essential
10% Write independent grant applications

The selected hire for this position will be awarded the secondary title of Research Assistant Professor upon starting the role.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
1. Ph.D., or equivalent degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Genetics, or related field.
2. Postdoc research experience of minimum 3 years in the development of computational methods or data analyses in the field single-cell transcriptomics and/or spatial transcriptomics.
3. Basic understanding of molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, or development.
4. Demonstrated research experience as evidenced by a strong publication record.
5. Excellent communication and writing skills.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience in participating NIH grant writing.
2. Experience in participating collaborative projects with wet-lab researchers.
3. Experience in the field of biology of aging.
