Job Description

Job Objective: Assist the Corps Officer(s) with basic secretarial duties, provide leadership for Corps programs, assist with fund raising efforts and other special projects and seasonal activities, and provide other support for Corp Officer(s).

Essential Functions:

Office Support

  • Serve as backup for switchboard operator
  • Establish and organize work priorities
  • Assist in preparation for board and other meetings
  • Update and maintain bulletin boards and magazine displays
  • Assist program support staff with preparation of corps programs including, but not limited to, Sunday School, Bible Study, Older Adult Ministries, Women's Ministries, and Youth Programs
  • Maintain mailing lists/databases
  • Maintain filing/correspondence systems in compliance with TSA policy and procedure

Corps Program Leadership

  • Provide leadership for and/or assist corps leaders in various events including, but not limited to:
    • Older adults
    • Youth programs
    • Sunday School
    • Women's Ministries
  • Organize, plan and execute older adult activities that bridge participants and Booth residents to the corps
  • Provide transportation for various programs using corps vehicles
  • Responsible for program resources; inventory and maintaining cleanliness of program closets and storage areas

Fund Raising, Special Projects and Seasonal Activities

  • Summer Camp
    • Ensure potential participants have opportunity to attend camps, providing information, registration forms, and transportation to / from camps
    • Responsible to ensure camp forms are completed correctly and sent in on time
  • Other special projects and seasonal activities
    • Assist with and/or coordinate Angel Tree, toy distribution, food distribution, coat and canned food drives, donations of hats, mittens, blankets, Christmas assistance sign ups, etc

Other duties as assigned by the Corps Officer

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: 1 year clerical and administrative experience, prior experience working with youth preferred

Certifications/Licenses: None

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to work within a diverse population
  • Ability to be non-judgmental in approach, allowing clients their right to self-determination, treating all with dignity and respect
  • Sound judgment, reasoning, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in standard English, both orally and in writing; bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others
  • Ability to manage multiple demands and competing priorities
  • Ability to plan, organize time wisely, and follow through
  • Self-motivated and able to perform with limited supervision
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment including telephone, personal computer, copier, fax and scanning equipment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft application including Word, Excel, Publisher and Outlook

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Physical Requirements: Include sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and twisting on an intermittent or occasional basis; grasping, pushing, pulling, lifting objects up to 25 lbs.; reaching overhead. Travel: Local travel

Driving: Driving is required; must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical office environment; some weekend and evening work may be required.
